Ahoy there skipper!! My take is that Gavin beats him comfortably!! Frankie is a very talented fighter who's only loss was a SD defeat to Bundu (Frankie was a world champion amateur and was clear favourite for Olympic Gold... But failed to make weightatsch). Gavin's style (very awkward southpaw, defensive counter-puncher) and skill make him (in my opinion) a terrible choice of opponent for Brook!! The public's perception is that Kell should flatten undersized Frankie in short order, but I honestly think that Kell will win... And look poor doing so!! Mind you, I would love Frankie to win!! He used to regularly post on here and came across as a great lad.
He's with John David Jackson now, Khan's getting his Glass Jaw shattered, Algieri's gonna come in like The Krusher and take Khan's head off.:deal
He's a tough bastad too. Down twice in the first against Prov, and came back to win a decision. He got thoroughly hammered off Manny (I think he was dropped six times and the scorecards were 120-103 which is ridiculous) but he heard the final bell...When you're that far behind with no hope of winning, many would have quit (his corner should have thrown in the towel to be honest). He deserves a lot more respect than he seems to get.
As usual I cannot disagree with a word you said! Frankie has great skills and now that he's set his mind to boxing we get to see them on display. It's funny (but nothing new) that a win over a limited mauler like Porter will see Kell get so much more credit in the states than if he beats an awkward, skilled fighter like Frankie.
Agree wholeheartedly. The world of boxing is not divided up into ATGs and no-hope bums as many posters here seem to think.
Those who appreciate just what it takes to box as a professional (never mind win titles) would never call a professional boxer a "Bum" (unless it's pre-fight trash-talk, that invariably gets smoothed over post-fight). It's a ridiculous phrase that is so incongruous with the actual sport.
:thumbsup Great call!! Mind set is indeed the key to Frankie! There he was, allowing his career to just drift towards retirement and the bitterness of having a career that promised so much but delivered so little (he has certainly earned his nickname "Fun-Time" ) when BANG!! Khan bottles the Brook fight and Frankie gets the call!! Frankie will be up for tbis mate, make no mistake. Like I said, I think Kell wins the fight, but looks poor doing so. The irony is, Khan's joyboy fans will mock Kell whilst choosing to ignore the fact that the fight only cane about because their hero wouldn't fight Kell.
I would try and tie my tiny **** in a knot if I thought it would in any way help. Hey, here is a question for you American guys. Just how big of a name is Khan in the states? His oddball fans seem to think that he is behind only Floyd and Manny as a ppv attraction.. Yet Uncle Bob (Arum) stated this week that he is nothing ("And I do mean nothing") in the states!!
Right again, my friend. Watching Frankie's career was very sad indeed for a while. I'm really glad he's getting this shot. I agree he will make things very tough for Kell and when he does the casual fans who know nothing about how good Frankie can be will likely rip into Kell for having a close fight with "a bum like Frankie Gavin". Then a year or two later Gavin will beat someone like Broner when Broner's camp tries to make what they think is an easy fight. And Frankie will get zero credit for that win because after all, "all he did was beat a hyped up bum like Broner". And the cycle of determined ignorance will continue...
