Time was when the question would have been:

Is Dempsey top 1 HW on your all-time list?

Do you even read what I post before spouting your ****?

I said I rank Dempsey 11th, which is ahead of hundreds if not thousands of boxers. Now if you feel that is below Butterbean I dare suggest you rate Butterbean much higher than I do.

Since 1990 we have had Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis, Vitali and Wladimir all of whom will have come after the death of the majority of people who watched Dempsey fight in his prime.

    He gets confused, bless him.

I say I have Jack number 11, he accuses me of fraud and bias. I don't hold it against him, I sympathise.

It went a bit like this:

    Sullivan Jeffries

    Jeffries Anybody

    Johnson Dempsey

    Dempsey Anybody

    Dempsey Louis

    Louis Anybody

    Louis Ali

    Ali Anybody

    Ali Tyson

I will let you work it out from there.

I have him around 15 which is still very good for an ancient white dude. Don't understand where all the vitriol is coming from.

No, based on what can be seen in those old films, plus, his refusal to fight black fighters, and add the fact Gene Tunney boxed circles around him (long count or not). Twice, No The legend of Dempsey is just what it is, a legend.

All rankings are subjective so you can have him where ever you want him. For me Dempsey is right at number 10.

Mr. Flash, have you not heard that Jack Dempsey had not fought in THREE years and without one tuneup fight took on a razor sharp Gene Tunney in their first bout? Read boxing history before you utter nonsense..

Here we go again with the same old "Schmeling thought, Arcel said, etc." nonsense!

What do they have in common? They were all young men when Dempsey was king - so of course they would pick him as the greatest ever.

And how can you even take seriously anything Tunney (or Sharkey) had to say about Dempsey? Could we imagine him saying something like: "I was sure lucky to come along at the time I did, because in Dempsey I didn't really have much to beat! 15 years later I would have been up against a prime Louis, and would have had little hope of ever becoming champion" No, of course not... he will naturally say whatever makes himself look good! Even you should be able to understand this!
