Well Duran is known for excuses so if you think that is an excuse so be it. That is how Duran explains his whole career. Excusing for Hearns is rather ridiculous. So had he been in shape he would have taken right hands over and over? Hearns would have landed his right and often and hard, so Duran would have really taken a lot of punishment in a rematch. I always said had they fought in 1989 as they almost did, Hearns would not have knocked him out in 2 rounds, this time since Hearns diminished a little he would have stopped Duran in 5 or 6. And Benitez was just too skilled. His excuse was he beat Moore so Moore beat Benitez. But he didn't beat Benitez which would have been much more significant than Moore. He beat the guys who beat the guy, but not the guy.

Duran is a Elite ATG but the only thing I have a problem with Duran and his biggest fans are the excuses. They say stuff like If Duran trained and is motivated he can beat any boxer that ever lived if he loses then he didn't train or wasn't motivated which is ridiculous because having discipline is one of the most important things a boxer can have and is a big flaw. But I have no problem with anyone putting him as a top 10 ATG.

Duran is maybe the most skilled fighter ever. I know that sounds like hyperbole, but hes more skilled than just about everybody. More skilled than Leonard, Ali, FMJ, Whitaker, Loma, etc.

This is a guy who gave up every physical and athletic advantage you could think of against SRL. And he beat him clearly.

He did beat him and in the rematch he lost and instead of giving credit where it was due made excuses. Which still haunts him today.

Even if hes a sore loser then whatever. It is what Is. Durans lack of proper preparation for the rematch has been documented and discussed. The topic has been exhausted.

Duran was a poorly educated, brute from the 3rd world slums. He was a misogynistic ******* with an inability to control his temper, mouth or alcohol. Quite a guy to hang out with.

Look, that's not the type of a guy I'd probably befriend. But he could fight.

That's what he was, a fighter. Why people expect him to be a gentleman and a scholar confused me.

Surprising how soft spoken, amiable and gentle Barkley is given how mean and intimidating that visage of his was in his prime.

Yes and it's a bull**** excuse. If after the LSC-Mares first fight in which LSC won and there was an immediate rematch and he lost to Mares in the rematch and said well I didn't care I wasn't motivated I didn't train I just partied then he would have been killed around here and rightfully so. Why is it that Duran gets passes that other fighters don't get?

I feel you. Like I said he's a top 10 ATG I just don't like the excuses just say you got beat and move on. No one would hold it against him anyway he's still gong to be a top 10 ATG.

The media didn't want to award full credit to Leonard for beating an in shape Duran. Now why they did that I cant say for sure, but my best guess is that it was because Duran was not in shape.
