i've never really paid attention to his corner work so i dont know how he is like there, his style of fighting is a good jab and plenty of body work, dont know much about his strategies and tactics what do you guys think?
Don't know much about him to comment there but his job with Cotto against Margarito was ridiculous. You got unknown journalists say that they KNOW Margarito will be throwing lots of uppercuts and try to corner Cotto who tends to kneel down a lot clearly welcoming those uppercuts. Then he goes in the fight totally unprepared for that like he and his team have no idea how Margarito attacks. Let's see how he does with Urango soon to judge, apart from that the only name he can mention is Cotto and he left him.

i've never understood why cotto wouldn't hire a better trainer, i heard he was hesitant in hiring Phil Landman (conditioning coach) but now he cant be in camp without him, i think cotto's scared of change.

That's how he always looked, you never really heard much from him even when he was with Cotto. Only time he got some attention was before the Margarito fight and rumors of having arguments in training, before that no one really paid attention.

No. He should have told Miguel to stay close to Margarito and be the aggressor. That loss was a strategic one, so I blame Evangelista. A trainer is supposed to study the opponent's style and come up with the right game plan. With a good trainer, Cotto could have been undefeated.
Evangelista, obviously is well known in Puerto Rico. He is a very underrated trainer. He also has a good strategy against boxers, for example you can note it when Miguel Cotto faced Abdulaev, Ndou, Branco, Torres and Quintana. Everytime Miguel went to his corner he gave him good instructions with a respectfull point of view. Its sad how the Margo fight went cause i heard him telling Miguel in every single break "dont stay on the ropes", but who knows whats actually happening inside Miguel's head. Something i agree is that Miguel is afraid of changes. For example he still maried to his wife, but both live in separated houses. He can also get a great world class trainer and still gave the job to his physical trainer. Watch the Branco fight and youll see a great coaching job by evangelista.
You make a good point. Only they know what happened between them but let me tell you, the best thing that Cotto could've done that showed some change was moving his camp to Tampa. He needs to get away from all the distractions in PR and the Doble Seis.
