:goodof course charles achieved more.at heavyweight sonny would ko him though. not many stunned sonny in a legit fight
Oh my god wait for the torches! Great thread GP. I think if you've included Charles run in the lower divisions then you can make a claim he deserves to be a top 10 HW. Otherwise, I think he misses out. Unless you're Bert Sugar, though. He ranks Charles #7. Also ranks Tunney #5, and Dempsey#3.
Although I personally don't have Charles quite so high, it could be reasonably argued that he was top-10.
Partial... Yeah. I'm with most. I can't find room for him in my top 10. I think a decent case could be made for including him in the top 15 or 20 though.
I think his legacy might be rated differently had he been awarded the victory in the 4th and final Walcott fight. That match was a concensus robbery, and had Ezzard taken it, he would have been the first man ever to regain the crown before Patterson and Tyson. He also would have likely faced Marciano a year or so earlier than he actually did, and who knows what that might have meant. He may have pulled off just enough to squeak out a decision over the rock as well.
Wow yeh, I didnt know it was that bad of a decision. If he won it surely he would be a lock for top 10, definitly in my eyes. Also would you agree Charles gets underrated generally because he won the Heavyweight title and people gloss over his lighter days?
Just had another look at my heavyweight rankings again - I actually have Charles at 10 so there you go.
