Every sport needs a villain to create some buzz!! He's undefeated, super skilled, bad mofo,...

Floyd is an evil necessary, he actually helps his opponents, because no matter what he is in the villain, and all of these challengers are made to be the good guys. In every great tale you need an antagonist and protagonist, that is how you sell boxing, the epic battle between good and evil.

It's so funny because it's true. The "good guy" vs the "bad guy." It's almost like some subconscious thoughts from your childhood with comics/cartoons. Reminds me of my 3 year old Godson.

There must always be a good guy and a bad guy, always. :smoke

He is almost ESSENTIAL to boxing's mainstream success. Right now, at least.

    :good

This is awesome article... For the short sighted (and there are a plenty on this forum) it was awesome, it was like the baby Jesus in the manger. War drums were sounding in the deep and a contingent of fans were screaming "Damn, Floyd a G, YO!!!" While a larger side was going, did that just ****ing happen???

The writer is correct, Mayweather got his millions, but boxing lost. At best Floyd is polarizing figure that will get people to plunk down $70 dollars to see him, but not really see him because they're fans, but to see him lose.

Does this increase fans of boxing??? In the long run no!!! The second coming of Ali, Floyd ain't... :smoke

Yes and no. Yes because people are at least talking about boxing (3 or 4 people in my office who know that I'm into boxing talked about the fight with me). No, because his actions don't really excite people.

When he announced Ortiz as his opponent damn near all of the casual fans were like "who?". And at the bar I was at for the most recent fight, almost the whole bar was cheering for Mayweather until the end. I don't think they found his actions particularly despicable... I think they felt jobbed. And no one likes being ripped off.

Well, his last fight was kinda WWE.

To answer the question. Yes. Mayweather is good for baxin. He brings a big attention. He is a draw because people want to see him gettin KTFO cold. And that's why we need Manny Pac - Void fight. Manny Pac by brutal KO. :yep

The worst figurehead the sport has ever had. Hopefully he will retire for good this time.

I reckon Hopkins would of done the same thing Mayweather did. But he would of rolled around on the floor for a bit after the headbutt like it really hurt too.

this fight in particular was entertaining while it lasted and everybody is talking about it. It'll only make people want to see him get beat more than ever and they'll flock to their TVs again in hope that it occurs. That's why it's important to stock up these undercards and show the newbies that the sport has life.
