What are you talking about? Golovkin's jab was extremely effective against anybody he used it against including Canelo. Against mid range contenders Golovkin can use his jab at his own leisure and still blast them out. Against top fighters its essential that he uses it more frequently. If he used it overtime vs Derevyanchenko he could have controled the action more effectively.
All-time ranking aside, one thing for sure in my eyes is he won the 2nd Canelo fight primarily using a stiff but unflashy jab. I think a big differentiating factor in how you saw that fight is whether you saw GGG’s jab as insignificant, or as a crisp punch landing monotonously. Was definitely the latter to me.
Golovkins jab continually jarred Canelo's head back throughout the whole bout, like Canelo had never seen before. As for you, You must have drunk at some pub while watching the fight, thankfully your not a judge.
What do you have to say about Floyd suddenly wanting to clean up boxing after watching Pacquiao destroy Cotto and Margarito? I never knew he had such a calling to clean up the sport of boxing. He's such a nice guy.
No, not even close. I can name many fighters in one weight division (heavyweight) whose jabs were better than Golovkin's one - Holmes, Liston, Wlad, Ali, Mercer, Bruno all had MUCH better jabs. Hell, even Bruce Seldon probably had better jab. Douglas and Lewis sometimes were very lazy with their jabs, but could be very effective in other fights.
I think this thread needs some footage. Here's a series of clips concentrating on Golovkin's jab: This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected Golovkin has a truly great jab, and bases his game around it. He uses it to set up his attack, to disrupt the other guy's rythmn and as a hurtful, thudding punch in its own right when he steps into it. Best jab ever? Probably not, since there have been so many other great jabbers through time. Best of the last 10-20 years? I think you could make a good case for it.
I'm not sure if those videos cover it, but something he does very well with his jab if not throwing it in a predictable rhythm. It's a big part of why he has so much success with it given that his hand speed isn't great
Yes, good point. He never was a boxer relying on speed, but it's really dropped off in the last couple of years.
I scored the first fight in GGG's favour you potato. I can still rightly or wrongly criticize him though without bias.
