it does if you want to be taken seriously. you can put up all the smileys you want but the bottom line is that if you don't have leverage with the TV networks or serious money and fan support to bring to the table then you're just another paper champion. in the big picture that is what witter is, and why he can't get big fights.
Don't deviate the arguement on my smiley's buddy . . . bottom line Hatton is still ducking the guy up to this time. :yep Lazcano? Will he bring more money than Witter? The guy who just lost and not even in the top ten ratings? Truth is Hatton is padding his resume against this past his prime fighter. :rofl
so answer my questions. you're talking about padding up a resume. talk to me about about hatton versus witter then. i'm calling you out.
Witter has been calling out Hatton for at least half a decade now. This guy has fought his mandatories and worked himself up the traditional way after losing to Judah in negative fashion. He won the english, british and common wealth titles, as well as the european title before winning the WBC title. All the while he has wanted this fight, and been in Hatton's face. Witter may not have fought on the big stage to date, but he has fought some decent opponents and a lot of them were not handpicked (i.e. mandatories). Hatton has never fought a mandatory.
...and even by the Ring, Witter is Hatton's mandatory challenger (to bad they cannot enforce them, which impairs the title's credibility imo).
i agree witter has had a case up until hatton had the balls to get out from under warren (pre-tszyu), but since then he's always been in his shadow because hatton allowed himself to be tested 'on the big stage'. even though every brit would like to see witter-hatton, it's not hatton's fault that the fight isn't on because hatton is the one who's put himself on the next level. persecuting him for that is throwing him in the same negative vein as benn and eubank - fighters who would have loved to have fought james toney but never made that same jump. i don't unerstand people who persecute hatton for having the self-respect to chase his own destiny instead of hunting in the minefield of british opponents which gave him no acclaim at all. hatton made his own luck, chased his dream, and he deserves all the credit in the world for not being afraid to do so.
So what about Hatton vs Witter? Witter is the WBC Champ and Hatton is the Ring Belt holder . . . is there something wrong if Witter wanted to prove himself against the Ring Belt holder? Is there somehting wrong if people wanted to see Hatton vs Witter than Hatton vs Lazcano? Or Hatton vs Malignaggi rather than Hatton vs Lazcano? These are the most logical fights at present. Here . . . just in case you are not aware of the latest ratings. Check the 140 lbs division. And double check or triple check where's Lazcano's name. http://www.fightnews.com/rankings2.htm
