I think Ruiz is a good win also, especially that he stopped him. Ruiz won against a lot of good heavyweights and had a very awkward hugging style that neutralized a lot of heavyweight’s weapons but Haye blasted him out. Haye is a solid boxer that’s underrated, mostly because him being a prima donna.

One of my favorite Haye showings is when he talked smack and had to fight Chisora and his whole team. Chisora got dropped and his trainer a broken jaw. Haye acted funny sometimes but make no mistake, he was a gangster when he had to be.

Skillful Hard athletic puncher for sure. But Ruiz was pretty shot. Haye should of had a deeper resume for his talent, but i like i say he probably didnt want to risk losing his post boxing "movie career" he wasnt ready for war lets be honest, he tried to save his face.

In the world of boxing hard men, Haye werent it. If he had the mentality he might of been a top 5 heavyweight post 2010, however he probably would have been mauled a few times.

So id say he wasnt underated he was what he was.

    I think so yes.

He's clearly the third best cruiser ever.

But also I think he was very useful HW. For about 4 years he was a top 5 HW and only lost to Wlad.

He lost early on in his career but he was dominant until he gassed.

He's rated fairly. He was not the greatest talent to ever come down the pipeline, but he was not a bum either. He was simply a good fighter with great power that was never going to be his era's standout.

Everything isn't overrated/underrated................some things just are what they are

Given his terrible resume I’d say he was overrated.

If you have to big up John Ruiz as a win your resume is pretty thin mate. And he had to beat him with rabbit punches. Really obvious ones that the referee called him for but continued to count as actual knockdowns! Like wtf man?

Still he had some talent, but he hardly fought anyone. His resume was thin as a puddle. I'm glad Bellew spanked him. He deserved that for all the silly sausage stuff he put fans through over the years.

Win over Mormeck, Macarenelli, Frogomeni, Gurov. One loss to past it Carl Thompson.

No Cunningham, Huck, Lebedev, Hernandez, Adamek?

    Breidis has a better resume.

I wouldnt put Haye favourite over Breidis from what ive seen.

Gassiev also has Dorticos and slightly past it Lebedev. But i think Haye outboxes him quite comfortably.

I don't get why people go crazy over Haye's cruiser weight campaign. His wins are no better than a lot of fighters competing around that time. Thomas Adamek has similar wins, maybe better if you think how highly rated Cunningham was at the time. Even Marco Huck has similar wins like Ola Afolabi who beat Macarinelli, Arslan and Lebedev, even though that was a bit of a robbery. What's so special about Fragomeni, Enzo Macca and Jean Mark Mormeck? Briedis one hundred percent has better wins at cruiser weight like Mike Perez, Huck, Dorticos, Glowaki and Gevor, and really thin losses to Usyk and Opetaia when he was past his best. Haye at that age was getting spacked by Tony Bellew. Briedis would beat him head to head as well. Haye was nothing special, he was just good at self promoting and a lot of people bought into that. He was average as champions go.

He isn't the third best CW and that's why he's underrated? What the hell does that mean?

How many times do fighters get ridiculed for pulling out? People are making fun of Keith Thurman right now for getting injured in camp. Haye knew he was in bad situation. He would never be able to live it down or ever secure another fight with Wlad had he pulled out, especially for a toe injury. It was also a big payday so the decision was to try to fight through the pain. After he lost the fight he could have just not said anything about it, then people wanted to know why he lost, why he couldn't get it done. Then Toe-gate was born. And he didn't just say it - he showed us. He took that boot off and showed us the toe. The Hayemaker wasn't lying. That Toe was all swole up.

As much as people want to laugh about the Toe, including me, it's actually a very serious injury for a boxer, especially a boxer who relies on his speed and athleticism. If you can't plant on your toe pain-free, then your movement and rhythm is inpaired. It affects your training, your preparation, your confidence level. You can't spar as much while nursing a toe injury. People with an inflamed toe really can't even walk let alone box. He probably spent most of the camp icing the toe and staying off his feet. That's not the sort of preparation that's gonna win you a major prize fight. Haye kept the toe a secret the entire time, knowing all along that he had a problem but never showing it. He also had the highly publicized sparring session with a young Justin Bieber before the fight, which had to make matters worse.
