To answer the question though, yes I think Haye is underrated in the sense that all people remember about him is the Toe incident and then how his career fizzled out against Tony Bellew, not just once but twice, a guy that Haye acted like he would handle easily, wasn't in his league. Haye had all the potential in the world. At his best, he had the skills, the speed and the power. He had some great performances, there's no doubt about how good he was. But he's unfortunately defined by the Toe incident and the way it ended against Bellew in sad fashion.
I’m not a fan of John Ruiz but he won against a lot good guys and only been stopped 2x with Haye being 1 of them. It’s a good win, regardless if you if like them or not. Seems like you have a hatred for Haye, it’s hard to admit that someone is actually good when you hate someone but Haye was good, a lot better than you give him credit for. Haye gave us some great KO’s, you have to at least admit that.
He could be considered a great puncher, but hard to consider him a great fighter. Ruiz was 37years old dude, hed been schooled by a SMW in his prime, he was shot by the time Haye got him. Theres actually alot more Haye apologists than haters. I think one he was a brit who spoke well and bought excitement to a stagnant hw division and two, it was a decent Klitchko win.
Hate was overrated. He had decent power but wasn’t a great boxer skilll wise. And yes his career is defined by the toe.
I think Haye's win over Chisora is underrated, because it came after his weak Heavyweight title reign, and the fact it came after the press conference brawl.
Yes. Wladmir Klitschko was a dominant champ and people are holding Hayes loss against him despite going the distance.
You right, it’s some guys that have similar wins as Haye but, they didn’t knock ppl out like Haye did. The only one that have been winning in as impressive ways (in recent years) as Haye is Usyk in cruiserweight. Prime Haye was more dangerous than you give him credit for, he had massive power.
Obviously you had more confidence in Haye, then Haye himself. He choose not to be a Hofer because he didnt have the mentality to fight real contenders and dangerous opponents. I mean Corrie Sanders didnt have half the defensive fluid skills of Haye but still managed to Poleaxe Wladimir, and give Vitali a tough fight.
Haha, I never implied Haye was HOF material, he’s far from it but, I just think he’s better than ppl give him credit for. Haye had some fun fights. Fun facts, I ran into Haye at a MMA show in Las Vegas long time ago (right after the Wlad fight). He sat in the row behind me, we ended up talking a little, he was actually really shill and nice. I’m from a European country and fought amateurs, 1 of my teammates went to England and fought Haye, Haye 1 punch KO’d him in the first. Haye had scary power already then.
Hayes only big wins at CW were Maccinarelli and Mormeck. That's all it takes to be the third best ever?
