McCallum was better at slipping shots than Camacho and attacked the body better too, Camacho never beat anybody as good as Kalambay and couldn`t have stood in front of Jackson slipping and countering that way Mike did v Jackson, Camacho couldn`t do that v the hard punching Rosario, both Mike and Hector were hurt in those respective fights but Mike`s response was far more impressive. Mike also beat Curry who was also better than anybody Camacho beat.
Chavez was stopped by a cut and a smashed jaw because he was coming forwards he wasn`t floored by DLH like Camacho was.
Rosario was an extremely accomplished counter puncher tho Mark and a very very good lightweight. No-one can avoid or block every punch. For sure Camacho wasn't perfect but he was extremely good at his best.
He didn`t throw enough shots against Rosario, he just tried to steal the fight by mostly pot-shotting.
You hinted at it earlier yourself. He was getting countered. Rosario hit him harder than he'd ever been hit. I can't stress enough how hard Edwin hits. His huge power and countering skill had Camacho gun shy and as you say trying to steal the fight. Nelson does not possess anywhere near this power.
1. Nelson supposedly hitting harder than Camacho is irrelevant. Camacho could bang a little when he wanted to. Rosario hits so much harder than both of them it's not funny. 2. Sanchez was never ever considered "hard hitting". 3. I think you should change your avatar.
But its the speed that Pea would have alot of trouble with. Sure he's fast as well but Camacho could really move.
Curry almost DROPPED Mccallum. And I'll have to look but Mike got staggered pretty bad in s fight while he was a contender. Jackson was green as could be when he fought Mike. Rosario was much more accomplished then Jackson when he fought Camacho. Look at how many unbeaten contenders Camacho fought in 1982/1983. Camacho beat Rameriez,Rosario,Davis, Edwards,Paz,Mancini, etc. They had two different styles. Mike couldn't come close to moving like Camacho. Hate to tell you but Kalambay beat my BADLY the first time and lost a SPLIT decision the second time in a bout that could have gone either way.
Camacho was a huge natural and physical talent. Off the chart speed, great movement, solid chin and great survival instincts. He lacked the complete all around arsenal of punches that a Chavez had and the defensive acumen of a Whitaker. Camacho relied on movement to avoid incoming artillery particularly post Rosario and lacked counter punching and any real inside game, hence him being pretty dull to watch compared to his early peak years. Still he was a brilliant fighter for a time and had a long and very good career. Never being stopped after facing De La Hoya, Trinidad, Chavez well post prime is an effort in itself.
