Is it dangerous is Macklin overlooks Varon?

Granted Varon's wins over Sturm and Konecny were over 5 years ago but could this be another Appleby-Laryea??

It wouldn't surprise me if Macklin made hard work of it. He, quite often, speaks like he is over-confident. Don't think he'll lose though, it'll be at worst a lackluster performance like his last one. I still expect him to finish it in 6.

 

Sorry bud I was looking at Javier Castillejos record today because Varons manager was saying he works with Castillejo and the win over sturm must have stuck in me napper.

Macklin has so may future options and with so much speculation about potential world title
fights there is a very real danger he could be distracted. A loss on saturday would be fatal to his ambitions. With so much time having been lost this year and with how long it would take hum to get back in contention his prime and peak would have passed him by. As ImElvis666 has said a lacklustre performance would not be a total surprise but I do expect Macklin to win.

 

No. Macklin could go in there blindfolded and win this one.

 

Varon was absolutely DESTROYED by non puncher Zbik in 4 rounds, if Macklin doesnt do something similar its going to look bad.

 

to be fair that was his only real stoppage in 10 years, even Sturm failed to stop Varon.

 

It's always possible with any fighter. But I'd expect Macklin to win handily.

 

could be but Varon is a shocking opponent. Surley Warren could of got him a WBO eliminator at the least but I get the feeling he wants the Barker fight as he knows there money to be made from it.

 

You give away your bias by the use of the term 'shocking'. He is decent but not great. Certainly a lot better than the embarrassing decision of Team Barker to fight Belgacham for the European title. Now that was shocking!

 

This is rich coming from the man universally recognized as the most bias poster on ESB.

Theres about 10 better fights that could of been made which move Macklin forward in his career. Varon doesn't. Its shocking for those reasons not because of Varons record which on paper is not that bad.

Belgacham was ranked higher than Varon when the fight was made....and still is and your over looking the process of making that fight.

I'd expect nothing less than a stoppage inside three rounds. Hopefully with Martinez having grief getting a decent opponent, Warren can work some magic and hope Sergio fancies a quick payday.

Its a pity Barker didnt defend his title against Lee, not saying he was afraid to fight Lee or anything but Lee should have got the shot not Belghecham who Lee had just beaten in a one side fight.

 

I agree but that fight is difficult to make at late notice. Would Lee have gone to London to fight Barker at 3 weeks notice and for the money Belgacham was offered....quite rightly he wouldn't off.
