He gets overrated and put above criticism, his competition just wasnt as good as what it get made out to be. And he should have faced Burley, no 2 ways about it the rest of his resume pales in comparison to that 1 name. I'd pick him as a favourate over Burley to be fair but he didnt face him and his resume isnt as good as Burley, Charles, Holman Williams who were around his own era.

I really think in terms of resume a few are above him, but I wouldnt rate them above him because of that.

Ability wise he is maybe the greatest but he has some weaknesses in his game, he wasnt as perfect as is made out to be. Defensively he could be better and his power wasnt that great.

    Yes, it is possible.

If Pacman beats Mayweather, Mosley, and beats another welterweight, and a couple of junior middleweights, I would rank him #1.

If Mayweather beats Pacquiao, cleans the welterweight division, unifies 154 and win a middleweight title, I'd rank him #1.

IMO it's impossible to catch him based on two facts.
    1. Fighters do not fight frequently enough anymore.
    2. The talent in boxing has been taken by other sports such as football, basketball, baseball, heck even mma.

your really just coming off as someone who wants to nit-pick at every facet of SRR's career, nothing you have said really makes sense or holds any credibilty. if you really you have to go so far in depth as to naming fighters know one has ever really heard of as a reason you think he's overrated, then that tells me you just wanna give SRR slack simply for the sake of being different.

Well these days its more about money and they only fight once or twice a year once they make it big. Back then they fought more often and more fights got made. Also they werent bothered by a loss the way it is today if you loose once its the end of the world and so they dont want to take as many risks.

Ray Robinon lost a lot of fights in his prime.....I think Roy Jones is the better all time fighter. People say Roy didn't fight the best competition.....James Toney and Bernard Hopkins are better than anyone Ray Robinson fought!

Wrong he lost 3 times in his first career once against Lamotta who outweighed him by 15 pounds then against Randy Turpin who he beat in a rematch soon after. Then against the lightheavy champion maxim due to heat exhaustion. Most of his losses were after he took a 3 year hiatus from the sport and was well past his best. Also Kid Gavilan is better than both hopkins and Toney imo.

Boxers back then were not businessmen like many are today. Not to take anything away from alot today's greats. I'm sure there would of been many of today's that would of beaten many past greats, but it goes both ways. It was normal to have more than 100 fights back then.
Fighters like Robinson and Duran are great because not only of their obvious skills and adaptability to win vs just about every style that was put in front of them, but dominating divisions and probably what today most fans I feel might over look is a fighters longetivity at the top and fighting the very best. Robinson not only fought his contemporaries, but shined as well and didn't leave any questions unanswered.

One simply can go to youtube, compare, and only wonder how Floyd might of fared vs. Basilio, Gavilan, Armstrong, etc former opponents of SRR or even contempories like Ike Williams or Charley Burley. Without bias and to be fair, then one must look up "Money's" hightlights and examine them to speculate how "The Harlem Dandy" would of performed vs. Baldomir, Judah, Hatton, Castillo, Corrales, Mitchell, DelaHoya, etc. respectively.

And that's all we can really do is speculate. No, IMO I don't feel Robinson is a sentimental favorite or feel that every fighter of the last 25yrs automatically beats today's fighters, but simply Robinson leaves no doubts.

    Wrong. I am a boxer.

Its all relative...SRR whilst only having fought 3 weeks ago, was more than likely also fighting another fighter who only fought last week as boxing was his regular job. Now if SRR was fighting every 2 weeks, against guys who got a good 3months rest + 2-3months training camp, that would be severely unfair against him. Its the same as today, sure fighters take more time but their opponent does also.

Imagine Floyd has been training for 2 months against Pac, 1 week after beating Cotto Pac faces Floyd...do you not see how unfair that is? Now if Floyd had just come off a fight himself, fair due...

    Different landscapes, cant compare.

BTW, show me a fight where SRR was fighting a top 10 opposition and was still cut from his previous fight?

Add Floyd to everything he's done.

What Pac has done is amazing.

Pac and SRR fought in different era's.

Pac can't do what SRR did but Pac's doing as much as possible.

    Da ****?

Anyway, yeah, it's possible, most definitely.

If Tyson had gone 58-0, he would have had a case.
