If the runner lands the same number of punches they should lose. That is aggression. If they land more, they should win, that is boxing scoring.

That's why I had the fight a draw, neither were effective in landing clean punches. Personally I'm not sure either Ortiz or Teo proved one was the ring general though with how clearly frustrated Teo was at times with Ortiz it could be argued it was Ortiz imposing his style of fight on Teo rather than the other way round. But in the end even if that was the case Ortiz just didn't land enough especially in the last few rounds to warrant him winning even if you thought he was dictating where the fight was fought.

As for the second part, I agree that's the risk, but that shouldn't be that way. Yes it can be looked as the aggressor being the ring general and him making his opponent be overly defensive but on the flip side you could look at it as a defensive boxer being the ring general making the aggressive boxer ineffective with his aggression by utilising constant movement. But usually it's the former that tends to be rewarded for simply coming forward and so any fighter choosing to fight like Ortiz did, really is taking a huge risk and rolling the dice and hoping the judges see it differently to most other judges.

Nothing wrong with hitting and moving and getting the W, especially if you don't have big power, and it definitely leaves them more susceptible to being screwed over though IMO as very few running ttype fighters have the privilege of being the A - side in bigger fights.

That's it effective punching. Now we've all seen guys just run for their lives and I believe we all despise that.

If you're a slick American P4P star or you've been hyped up as the next big thing from over there and you hug like crazy everytime your opponent manages to track you down and get into punching range, then the answer is not only yes it's wow! How great are they? Skills to pay the bills. Future P4P#1. Amazing defence! What a boxing masterclass. Did you just witness that shutout?!

But if you're a deep Puerto Rican /Dominican brother or anyone who doesn't possess the right qualifications to stink out the joint on the back foot it's dude ran all night, that was hella boring, you can't win a fight fighting that negatively. No way he won that fight, man

Sorry Jermaine, but your name isn't Devin or Shakur

Running away like some big breasted slut in a horror movie. It's insulting and I don't like it.

Nah, not really, I don't have many problems with it.

I know where he's from. He's from Worcester which is located in the region of New England so technically I could claim him as a Brit if I wanted. Real talk

It's fine either way, as long as it's consistent (and it generally isn't consistent).

In the West like England and Murica they love runners but others like latin america like mexico or Honduras they hate it.It’s not machismo enough! People that run should be given a pt deduction.I would say you can run for 8 to 9 rounds continuing to do so its a DQ.Because people spent their hard earned cash working hard and guy runs and takes an easy pay day!!

    Runner ?????
Using this reference shows that you know very little about boxing.
Distance control is an important boxing skill.
    Outside. inside, side to side.
    In and out.
    You control the fight.

It’s an interesting post, I have wondered the same but after reading the comments I agree with those that say it would be unfair not to award them the round if they’re doing more damage. It’s just not going to win them fans and that’s mostly their problem. But it is also boxing’s problem. As I’ve got older I have appreciated more boxers which take the centre of the ring and use more subtle and skilled evasion than hit and run. If I were a judge I would probably have a slight bias towards the aggressor but it would be boring if we were all the same, as long as we respect fans and judges are all allowed to have their own preferences.
