Is it time we start viewing Canelo as a future ATG?

Well Floyd didn't fight top P4P guys who were in their prime as early in his career like Canelo did. And lets not forget Floyd's first "career defining win" was a split decision vs DLH where his own daddy said he had Oscar winning lol. And that was not a Prime DLH.

The majority of observers had Canelo losing both GGG fights. Same goes for the Lara fight . So are you saying everyone who scored these fights against Canelo is anti-Canelo ?

Theres not a single credible poster on this site who had DLH winning that fight. It was close but clear decision and the vast majority of observers had Mayweather winning . He outlanded him by over 100 punches . I can’t think of a single P4P guy in his prime that Canelo has fought except for Mayweather who he lost to. And GGG who was 36 and , by a lot of accounts , won both fights against Canelo

I had Mayweather winning however Mayweather Sr. wasn't so sure. Floyd's own daddy indicated he thought DLH should have won. And clear or unclear, it was still a split decision and that was not a prime DLH. DLH was in his mid-30s and at about the age that GGG was when he fought Canelo, which age was used as an excuse. Not only that but DLH had been a pro boxer for a lot longer when he fought Floyd than GGG had been when he fought Canelo : DLH had been a pro for 15 years when he fought Floyd. GGG had only been a pro for 10 years.

Not only that but De La Hoya had way more mileage on him when he fought Floyd than GGG had when he fought Canelo. De La Hoya boxed over 300 rounds in his career, GGG hasn't even boxed 200 rounds yet. You can't have your cake and eat it to. If you are on the slide by your mid-30s then you are on the slide.

Floyd Mayweather's split decision win over a faded DLH was not better or as impressive than what Canelo did in two fights to GGG. Not only that but GGG was undefeated with one of the highest KO ratios in boxing history when he fought Canelo. DLH had already lost 4 times before he fought Floyd.

The two situations aren't remotely comparable. Beating an undefeated GGG at 160 was a much more difficult task than beating a 4-loss DLH at 154.

UI view Canelo as what I honestly believe he is....
An over rated Ped's abuser that has also needed "assistance" from the NSAC & VEegas boxing officials to accomplish his apparent success
Like Mayweather before him he is a very talented boxer who, instead of relying on his own talents he sold put in fact. Its a swhame really because wh WITHOUT the corruption. they both could really be as good as they think they are today BUT The really both have ruined their own legacies

DLH was 34 when Mayweather fought him and #1 in his division. GGG was 36 when Canelo fought him and well past his prime as well . I’d say the victories are comparable.

Mayweathers dad didn’t say that until after Mayweather Jr fired him as his trainer . He was just bitter about being fired . Doesn’t change that no credible boxing fan had DLH winning that fight .

GGG had just turned 35. GGG wasn't well past his prime, the guy was undefeated. We saw some signs that he was slipping like against Brook and Jacobs but those guys were also a step up in skill level for GGG.

DLH was much more past his prime when he fought Floyd. DLH had only 1 fight in the nearly 3 years between his KO loss to Hopkins and his fight with Floyd Maywather. When DLH fought Mayweather, it was like he was coming out of retirement pretty much with a full year of inactivity.

You can't compare that to GGG who was undefeated and much more active and closer to his best than DLH was when he fought Mayweather. Also GGG was obviously a much bigger and more dangerous puncher when he fought Canelo than DLH was in 2007.

Canelo + Oscar tag team = ATG

Canelo without Oscar = a solid fighter on peds, who looses every time he steps up

GGG was 36 (near 40) when Canelo “beat” him in a rematch. The first fight was a draw. GGG had been showing significant signs of decline in the Brook and Jacobs fight. Mayweather had already beaten p4p top 5 fighter Diego Corrales by the time he fought DLH and won without any controversy. Either way, this discussion is getting off track . The OP is asking if Canelo should be considered an ATG. My point is that Canelo is no where near an ATG yet because he has ZERO convincing wins of note. His best clear victory is over a 35 year old Cotto which is no where near enough to be considered ATG

He demolished the GGG train. Canelo imposed his will all fight long. GGG was supposed to knock him out. Canelo is a diva and all that. He demolished that narrative. I think Canelo clearly won. Clear as day.

C'mon man, I hate Floyd but his father was Oscar's trainer for that fight. They were beefing heavy back then too ,he would have said anything to hurt his son.

12 yrs and 15 yrs, is not a lot longer, sorry. Also you fail to take into account GGG's Am career. Unfortunately you have failed this time !
