Yes, todays heavies have no skills and are bums and would've lost to every other rose colored glassed heavy of the past.

By the way, have you seen those beautiful back muscles on todays heavies?? Mmm!

Just remember the age, weight and history of the men you suggest.. Marcianos H/T defence record lists 7 defences. If disected, It will be easier to be considered a poor standard of men he faught whilst defending his title.

Roland LaStarza was a name to forget. Don Cockell was a puffed up, flabby British L/H/W.. Charles was past it.... Walcott was past it. Archie was well on his way to become an iconic figure, through his longeveity, although he was past it also.

Marciano, through his management, fulfilled everything he could. He retried at the perfect time, and remains a legend. Correct management assured this. Rocky blames his management for hispremature retirement, although, it was his decision after being ripped off a few too many times.

Rocky remains one man, who through good fortune, was in the right era, for the right reasons. I am not dismissing his abilities, fitness, toughness, will, record, skills or adoration from all fans.

Seamus..shameful.. Dempsey was a product of the era.. Let it go mate.. If you wish to be making comparasins, consider Tunney, Burnes, Fitz, Corbett, Hart, Marciano and Charles in relevance to the size of todays fighters..

The forum you have thrown you illegitimate comment into, remians for the men willing to take into account every comparisin, regarding all particular eras, with the ability to accept deficientcies of diets, skills, size, management etc.. Take some time to read through the pages on offer..

What are you talking about with "correct management"? He faced all the best heavies of his day and knocked them all out. His title defences are a lot more impressive than Dempsey's, who sat on the throne for 3 years and defied the #1 contender a shot at the title for 6 years. Talk about correct management.

Some historian rate Marciano's challengers as among the worst of the Champs, though to me they were a definite step up from Stander ,Daniels and Ziggy! Marciano was shrewdly managed so correct is an acceptable description, don't you think ? Perhaps we should start a thread about how Rocky avoided the big punchers of his time, the best p4p puncher he beat was Moore a LH,sound familiar [Foster]?

Shrewdly managed? He was matched up with undefeated, 15-0 and and 9-0 fighters in his 2nd and 3rd pro fight! And he knocked out both of them; certainly not like Dempsey losing to a 37 year old light heavyweight by first round knockout.

Walcott and Charles make everyone's top20, some top15's. Moore has a solid resume at heavyweight. Louis was still beating every contender he faced.

How many of Dempsey's opponents rank in the top20 or top15? Or even the top30? I guess the only one is Sharkey, against whom he looked horribly unimpressive and won controversially on a foul.

Marciano faced every one around and defended the title five times against the #1 contender and once against the #2 contender. What more can you ask of a champion? Maybe he should've done nothing but sit on the title between 1952 and 1955, seemed to gain Dempsey a lot of respect. Or avoid fighting the #1 contender for longer than his entire championship reign.

In rebuttal ,it could be said Walcott was 37 and 38 ,Charles was nearly 33 ,Moore was anywhere from 38 to 42 depending on whether you believe him or his Mother.Charles and Moore were at their best at LH,Cockell was a former LH,and Walcott was an in and outer during his career. You are getting predictable Chris that can be very dangerous ,I might time you with my ko punch soon, but don't worry I'l let you out of my keep net , for now.

It appear pontios has suffered badly in the opening roung. Having been caught on the ropes, his offering subjected as questionable, and his text exposed, he wobbles towards the corner.. with adequate knowledge, a fair library and clear minded though, he will answer the bell............

    "seconds out... round 2".......DING DING

Not every HW looks like James Toney, a fact many people overlook. Both Klitschkos are gigantic while being slim. Rahman was also muscular and not fat, Byrd/Ruiz weren't fat I could go on and on. And it's not like every fighter pre today was a lean mean specimen, Galento gets loads of praise and he's fatter than anyone today.
