    Underated as a fighter...
Overated as a criminal out of the Ring ! LaMotta for all his bad boy reputation, was not so bad,he claims...for example he only as a boy, stole things beginning with the letter A :
    A car
    A bike
    A radio
    Fine young man was Jake....

  2. outside the ring he was a ***** who beat up on women like his nemisis sugar ray

Probably would have...but does that really mean he is massively overrated? They would have beaten just about every top contender of every era since.

Lamotta holds wins over Lytell and a faded Williams by the way.

I know but wasn't the Lytell win a controversal SD before Lytell's prime?

He is considered a great off the Robinson fights but Robinson wasn't really close to having grown into the weight until their final fight. Lamotta's perception is very very flattering

The reason I think he's overrated is he makes most people's top 10 lists and gets picked over the likes of Hopkins/Hagler based on his win over a 144lb Robinson

Frank Bruno said Audley Harrison would knock out David Haye.

sometimes even great sportsmen talk a lot of delusional **** about their own profession.

We may lean to Jake being overated because we don't have a lot of fights of his, but the fights we have seen, shows a hard man to beat on his best night. Not alot of power, good defense, good skill, serious will to win, and toughness unmatched.

He would be a very hard night for the best of the best. I say he is an all-time great fighter who sometimes under-acheived, but mostly over-achieved.

With his tools he should not have beaten Robinson, 15 pounds or not, but he probably beat him more than once in the ring, but not on the cards. Cerdan counts. Matching him up with other middleweights in history would alway be a tough night for his opponent.

Besides the second(Lamotta won) and sixth(Robinson won) fights that were pretty clear victories, I wonder if anyone thought Lamotta won any of the other 4. I heard they were close battles.

    ??????????????
I have an online legacy of boosting Lloyd as probably one of the 5 greatest middles of all time.
If you read ringside accounts of what he did to both Jake and Overlin you will cringe at the level of domination displayed by him.
