Don't just blame Goosen...there is only so much a promoter can do...if there is a demand from the networks, not just the fans, any fight can be made. Problem with James is that he hasn't looked impressive in his last few fights. It's hard to promote someone who doesn't look good in the ring. Look at John Ruiz...it's hard to get him fights that generate money or demand because of his performances in the ring. Had james knocked out or even beaten Frez convincingly, he would have no trouble landing a fight right now.

At the end of the day, trash talk is fun but plays only a small part in boxing. If a fighter doesn't back it up in the ring, the public stops taking interest.

Well...Toney was talking and backing it up (and doing pretty good) until the Guinn fight. He hasn't looked good since.

Toney looked pretty good in Rahman fight not so long ago.
Against Oquendo he wasn’t that convincing but it is hard to look good against Oquendo, especially when fast Fres was running and holding the entire match.

I think so, sadly. Reflexes and timing are going and I think it's wear and tear rather than just being in poor condition.
Toney's one of my favourite ever fighters, when he's on form he's an artist. Great counterpuncher, defensive genius, great short-puncher

Yup...and that was a long time ago...at that time, Chris Byrd still had the IBF title.

He had a nice run on Showtime and failed to perform...he has no one to blame but himself.

Yes, but Ruiz is ranked number one by the WBA and will get yet another title shot soon.

Failing to impress in his last couple of outings Toney's career definitely has seen better days. Even hardcore Toney fans are running out of excuses to explain his often lethargic performances since the Peter I fight. Ironically Toney has repositioned himself in the rankings. Being ranked within the top ten by 3 of the 4 major bodies means that an eliminiation bout could be just around the corner for James. That brings us to the priority list of his promoter who seemingly has lost interest in Toney, preferring younger, more consistant fighters like Chambers, Arreola. Unless Goossen has good arguments to put Toney on the sideline, I would advise Toney to leave Gossen/Tudor asap in order to secure one last meaningful fight and take full advantage of his ranking. Who knows maybe the "fatman" will shine one last time before riding into the sunset...

The WBA has been in the back pocket of Don King for years...this is why there is no sense of urgency for the other title holders to unify with the WBA. K2 knows that they have to go through Don King to get it. It's not going to happen.

I guess you could say that if james wants a title shot, he should sign with Don King. If he signed with the King, he could get a shot against anyone in his stable...including Ruiz or Valuev.

Yes, I said this for the past 2 years, Toney should sign with Don King in order to get one last shot at the title.

Yup...we took this picture at the weigh-in of the Pac/Solis card.

He was training Brian Viloria at the time...Brian was fighting Edgar Sosa on the undercard.

He predicted that Mijares was going to take Arce to school that night and that the Pacman would have trouble early in the fight against Solis.

He made time for anyone who had questions about the sweet science. He is still a real fan of the sport.

If he signed with king, in my opinion, a title fight would be made tomorrow!!
