Guzman is a guy no one really knows, only hardcore fans and experts saw him fight more than once or twice and he's from a small country not really on the boxing map, so he's got no international fanbase behind him.

So, how come the stupid idea he's overrated? All I know is that Freddie Roach is either rates Guzman correctly or overrates his abilities as he said several times: PacMan is ready to fight anyone. Anyone but Joan Guzman...

He can be overrated even if five people know him. If five people think he's jesus christ in the flesh then he's overrated by those five people. You don't need a general consensus to be overrated, at least not by my eyes.

I think the truth lies somewhere in between to be honest. He's overrated by the hardcore "purists" who think he's some unstoppable juggernaut and underrated by fans who are turned off by his style. I think he's a good fighter whose a little on the decline and a lot on the boring side.

Definitely overrated. He's a very skilled fighter but some people are just blinded by his awesome speed and flashy, arrogant style of fighting.

And like MexicanJew and other people, I have also said for quite sometime now that Guzman is FAR from being this unbeatable hero. He doesn't have power and his defense, while quite good, ENTIRELY relies on his reflexes. It is not TEXTBOOK defense like a Winky Wright which IMO is more effective. Guzman's defense relies on him being much faster than his opponent. Meaning his "formidable" defense wouldn't be so formidable against boxers who also have speed.

I still think he beats Campbell BUT Campbell can EASILY turn the tables around him and beat him. And I hope to God Campbell does.

That's the pattern I'm seeing here. ^ "I've been saying for awhile that Guzman eats donkey dicks" and "hopefully he gets beat the **** up this weekend because I don't like him."

It's nice to hear that Guzman is overrated - from people who can't stand him. :smooch

a very good boxer that is overrated here in ESB. only here can you see him being ranked at 135 even if he had not yet fought in that weight. unbelievable!!! :-( can these folks please wait until his fight before they judge him as the best lightweight today?

Still doesn't change the fact that even though I don't like him, it still doesn't affect my pick and see that he still can beat Campbell. Doesn't mean he's not being overrated here too much.

    A very bold statement, man.

As much as I do not like his arrogance in the ring, I have to admit his style is very hard to beat. Very fast with both hands, a slickster with amazing reflexes, plus a tough, tough chin. His KO power has obviously deserted him a long time ago, but he compensates for it with his annoying showboating.

When people here say he will beat Pac and can be the champ at 135 even without stepping in the ring yet, they have a solid ground. His style, skills and talent are obvious.

I just hope Nate will prove me wrong once more this Saturday. (I picked the Baby Bull to beat him in their fight.)

Definitely overrated by some on this board. While he possess good technique, his power at upper weight is absolutely non existent and the running ala Soto fight must stop.
