Probably closer to the underrated side of things in general (being a white non american), though anyone who states he is the greatest fighter of the last 25 years or something ludicrous like that should die in a fire.

To answer the question of the thread title....

If you are from usa - most will say he is overrated
If you are from uk - most will say he is not

I dont believe he is overrated because HE IS 1 of the top 3 p4p right now & is labaled as such.
He is also the longest reigning 168 lb champ in history & has rarely came close to losing.
He is still unbeaten at 36 yrs old with a 45-0 record.
He is IMO the best British boxer of all time & would have been the top guy if he fought the other great Brits in their prime (Eubank, Benn, Collins, Watson)
He lives right & still whips the other guys in his gym at training even tho some are in their 20s.
He genuinely seems a decent guy outside of the ring & IMO deserves less criticism on esb.

Calzaghe is ONE OF the best of the last 10-20 yrs, maybe not THEE best but certainly a very very good fighter that deserves more respect than he gets here.

    Cheers.

someone put it best about 100 threads ago:

    The resume is overrated.
The man's ability is underrated by many, but reflected accurately in his P4P status.

I don't think he is the most over-rated champion of this generation.

oh and he has done exceptionally well fighting with hands made of biscuits for the past 8 years. Maybe he would have received more praise stateside from the bonehead fans if he hit a bit harder, but the fact he can still win and often embarrass opponents without power punching should be applauded.

He has a different style. Not sure if he's overrated or not.

    By nuthuggers, yes.

By genuine unbiased boxing fans who don't care about Nationality, East vs West, Europe vs America etc. then no.

They can rate his boxing skills accordingly.

"most overrated champion of this generation" ???
As I remember he was very low rated for most of his career,
now after he step up and still is undefeated he certainly deserves a little bit overrating.

Excluding all the hype, he is a really nice guy. Take a look at his face, he's unmarked. His record speaks for itself. He beat the best that was available at the time. The extra time at 168lbs solidified his standing there, he could have moved to 175 earlier, but why?
A brilliant role model for youngsters.
