Patterson declined an offer to fight Frazier. Shavers was derailed by Jerry Quarry when he was making a name for himself. There was never truly a possibility for a Norton-Frazier fight. They were in the same camp early on and an offer was never made according to Norton.

Norton did admit that Frazier iced him in their first sparring session.

I never knew about floyd turning the fight down, surprises me actually.

Yeah shavers didn't really come into his own until the mid to late 70's. Same to be said about norton as well.

I'm happy in my verdict he cleaned out during his years as the hw king.

In 1972 Floyd Patterson was intent on fighting two men: Bonavena and Ali. He won a close decision over Bonavena and by the time he fought Ali he was ranked #3 by Ring Magazine. He had long said that he wanted a rematch with Ali, doubtless to prove that he could have done better than in the 1965 fight, and that win, lose, or draw that would be his last fight. It was. Style-wise, Frazier would not have been a good matchup for Patterson.

Actually the Ring ratings read: World Champion - Joe Frazier, contenders #1 - Ali, #2 - Foreman, #3 - Patterson. So more accurately he was rated the #3 contender, not the #3 heavyweight.

Not trying to convince anyone that you're a troll, and I'm not going to sift through past threads. You have been harsh and disrespectful in responses to me and others and some of your criticisms I just don't understand.

I have never come back at anyone with insults or expletives because I try to respect people's opinions who appreciate the sport. If I have, I will be the first to apologize and type that I am sorry for offending.

And yes, I am a Frazier supporter perhaps because I understand what he went through in life having other black men try to strip me of my African/West Indian ancestry through false BS.

Here's a solution, I won't respond to anything you post and I'll just ignore stuff that comes from you as hurtful and insulting.

Pontius, McGrain, McVey, Mendoza, Prince and others have all come back and argued threads against me and for me, like mature boxing enthusiasts with valid points. Never with insults or personal attacks. We all have arguments and who we favour as fighters. It's takes another person with a foul attitude to just make it worse on this forum for everyone else.

Sound like a plan Stan? Or are you just over your head and not feeling nice? Let me say that I'm sorry if you took this paragraph the wrong way OK.

    Keep punching!

Frazier always said "Any man with two hands, can put a whuppin' on another man".

Very doubtful that he underestimated Foreman, who was bigger and stronger, and Joe knew it.

Once Foreman started bouncing him off the canvas, he knew it even more.

Not to mention that this post is in incredibly bad taste, given we just lost `Smokin` Joe... But, is anyone idiot enough to think that a `fraud` gave Muhammad Ali his first loss ??? Just when you thought you read it all...
