Why didn’t Joe make Ryan as the taller fight establish range more and instead kept letting Tank use his lead hand to gauge distance while Ryan just kept moving forward with his clumsy foot work?

YOU GOTTA GET INSIDE ON HIM NOW

Who cares can't blame trainers and it's down to the fighter to have the intelligence to further himself.

Goosen was too busy choosing what outfit he was going to wear on the night,

It doesn't help that even when he speaks to Ryan in the corner he is so nonchalant with his instruction's,

Ryan should have stuck with an aggressive trainer perhaps even Robles.

I think he's very overrated as a trainer and commentator nd just seems like the type of dude that tries really hard to fit in

I think Goosen and his brothers had a good thing going with Ten Goose decades ago. But his brother who ran everything died several years ago and he just seems to be going through the motions now. Just a way to pick up some money here and there.

Not really. Any time I see a fighter being coached by him I think the guy has a small chance at winning. He's a step below mcgirt

I don’t rate him very highly. He doesn’t produce.

He is very good coach. He told him what to do, he just didn't do it.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

I can't believe people are questioning Goossen's ability. He trained Gabe and Rafael Ruelas from pure novices to champions. This is more than some big-name trainers who (as far as I know) can't say the same. Instead, many trainers in the sport make their living by fine-tuning established fighters. I don't blame them for doing so. I am simply pointing out the absurdity of questioning the ability of a proven "diapers to titles" trainer like Goossen.

For further evidence of Goossen's abilities, look no further than Corrales vs Casamayor I & II. Casamayor, himself a supreme boxer, won the first fight by TKO. Meanwhile, Corrales, known more for his power than for his boxing skill, won the rematch by decision. FYI, Goossen trained the winner of both fights.

But that was back then & times changes all especially trainers as they become very uninspiring & stagnant going through the motions of camp,

Where fans criticizes the fighter for every little point in each fight they participate in so should be the trainer in the same way,

You still have trainers like Roach training guys but if we were to be honest he hasn't been any bit impressive since 2009 it's just him having a once in a lifetime fighter in his stable making it seem he was very efficient for a lengthier time period which was false.

We're generally saying the same thing. Perhaps Goossen is jaded. After all, he's been around the sport long enough, as an insider, to know how the game goes. Ryan's popularity on social media, the marketability that comes with being objectively good-looking, and his knockout power likely convinced Goossen to take a chance on Ryan. If Ryan would've beaten Tank, Goossen would've been in the position to reap some serious financial benefits.

I didn't want to say his name, but Roach immediately comes to mind when I think of popular trainers whose whole reputation is based on fine-tuning established fighters rather than training them from the ground up.
