This is a classic example of just looking at the result and not the context. It is almost as if you just read the result on Boxrec and didn't watch the fight. Yes, Lucas was counting out, but, as everyone could see, he wasn't badly hurt and could of got up and continued.
Once they crack, they don't come back. :deal Boxing history is riddled with guys who had solid punch resistance - or other attributes that compensated for a less-then-sturdy mandible - having their chins just desert them. Roy Jones is of course the modern archetype for this, but there are many others. Now, it remains to be seen, conclusively, if this is the path Mathysse is on. His next few fights will be telling, unless he chooses to face softies.
How is a guy KO'd by a punch to the EYE, now suddenly have a glass CHIN? I'm sure the doctors on this site can explain the connection between the eye and the chin....
He was knocked down by an out of balance armpunch counter... It's not that he was hurt and has a glass chin, nor glass eye. It's just that he didnt want to continue, nor to win.
They should throw Lucas in with Orozco next. Very winnable action packed fight, or possibly campaign at 147.
He came dangerously close in the first Jones fight when Carson cracked that rather large snoz of his. Even the BBC reported him as "surviving" the fight rather than winning it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/boxing/18742064 I like Brook, but that Glass Conk of his could be a severe liability once Eddie puts him in with a live body.
Nice try but Brook had a badly broken nose- worse than the one that caused Israle Vazquez to say no mas, worse than Matthysse's eye for sure, but Brook dug deep and past a gut check. The man is made of cast iron. The Special One has been in with 3 fighters who was in The Ring's top 10 Welters when he fought them (only Pacquiao has more in of the current top 10), he will add a 4th in a few weeks....yet nobody has stopped him with a broken nose yet. How live does the body need to be?
Once club fighter Carson Jones crumbled that colossal conk, Kell caved and only just managed to survive the pressure put on him by young Jones. Before the snout-shattering Kell was nearing his way to a shut-out. I wonder if he could perform as admirably against Porter if mini-Tyson was able to replicate this.
