He doesnt focus with leaning forward and sitting behind his punches as he does maintaining his balance, measuring his distance, and doing 2 things at once which is being both defensive and offensive at the sametime. When he'd setup the right hook with the jab and land the hook, he looped it that certain way to punch around Cotto's guard. So despite Cotto having his guard up, it was no use as Floyd was punching behind it! Very, very intelligent move by Floyd. It's the great attention to the small details that Floyd does what few if any fighters can do. I'm sure Floyd has no problem doing a textbook right hook, but it wouldn't have worked for him. The short left, sneaky uppercut that almost ko'd and hurt Cotto in the last round was a thing of beauty. Hadnt seen that from an orthodox fighter since Oscar and Tito were in their primes.

It seems nobody can short left hook him in close when he's rolling his shoulders so it is effective yes. Hatton was the guy to work on his fast footwork and step in withat left hook but his defense going in was so poor.
