Confidence is a peculiar state of mind which can be fuelled by reality (eg: Mayweather) or delusion (eg: Chris Eubank Junior), and until the two fighters step into the ring it's impossible to say what is driving Paker's. People read too much into the pre-fight build up. I hope it's 'reality' for Joe coz I'd love to see the smugness wiped from collective face of Team Hearn....
I like Parker but I have a hard time seeing how he beats a bigger, more powerful man with a much longer reach who has much better experience at amatuer and pro levels.
Im not counting Parker out here. I will not be surprised if he pulls the upset... but I expect AJ to stop him.
I'm picking Joshua to win by a stoppage...but that's not a sure thing. Parker didn't look good against Hughie and Cojanu - but Joshua isn't some slick dude who's going to be making Parker miss or switch up stances and get all tricky. And Joshua certainly won't be going negative and using "journeyman tactics" like Cojanu did. AJ is going to be giving Parker - at least style-wise - more of the type of fight that Parker prefers to fight. And if Parker gets Joshua toe-to-toe - he's not at all that much of a disadvantage. Parker probably has the faster hands. I don't think Parker has AJ's pop - but he's got enough to hurt AJ if he lands clean. Trouble is - aside from AJ tiring - I don't see how Parker closes the distance on AJ. Joshua uses his range and Parker's not the hardest man to hit. He's going to need that "Samoan chin" before AJ tires, I think.
It's a heavyweight fight.. anything can happen. On the surface of it, it is really hard to pick against Joshua based on their last few respective performances. I know the Parker team are throwing out this elbows thing now, but until we see a different Parker than what we saw over the past couple of years, it is just hearsay. Obviously I would love to see Parker take the belts back home to the right side of the world. AJ though is a beast, I think he will hold too many cards on the night. We shall see.. (and I can't wait!).
I don't believe Joshua himself is over looking Parker, far from it, he is training very hard. Joshua is in a little bit of a "no win" situation in my opinion because a lot of boxing fans have already written off Parker so Joshua won't get much credit for a W. Personally I believe it would be an excellent win for Joshua, Parker is undefeated, a world champion, young, hungry, has a lot to prove and can punch, this is not a gimme.
I don't think he's sneaking up on Joshua It's quite clear that he is both mentally, technically and physically better equipped then Joshua A swinger is finally going to meet a boxer
I like Joe and would like to see him upset the applecart but no, the fact he has had surgery on both his elbows just makes me think of him as having less of a chance than I did before. Who has really looked better after surgery?
