I was watching a few older Povetkin fights today and I came across this one. I remember the fight being quite competitive at the time, but I never realised how exciting it was. I personally think this is one of the better HW fights of the last few years; some excellent exchanges and a nice back and forth rhythm to the action. Chags was a bit past his best at this point, though still a very handy fighter, and Povetkin was maybe at his sharpest and most dangerous. It's the sort of fight that tends to fly under the radar due to a lack of knockdowns and dramatic moments, but it's the type of fight that makes for consistently quality viewing IMO.

    Thoughts?

I don't remember it being that exciting either but decent. Povetkin is great entertainment to me. Povetkin/Takam maybe is a better shout for a classic even though Takam isn't as big a name. Povetkin/Huck was great the way I remember it too. Could be called a classic maybe. But good shout though. I might check it out again. Check my memory.

The Huck fight was more dramatic, certainly, but it was also quite sloppy in places. Huck's wild flurries threw Povetkin off his normally controlled style and made for some ugly moments. But definitely a good fight from an all action point of view.

Takam was a good fight too. Lots of nice exchanges and back and forth action, ending in a brutal knockout. Underrated for sure.

It's not a crazy all out brawl like many fights people rave about, but I liked the fact that it was two well-matched quality operators striving to gain dominance over the other and having a degree of success throughout the fight. Even in the quiet moments you could see the level of concentration both fighters were exerting not to make any mistakes or let opportunities slip away. Maybe I'm weird in finding that exciting, but as a boxing fan I love technical battles like this one, which provide a certain thrill above and beyond two guys simply going all out for the KO.
