I was actually going to cite Paulie as one example of a really great fighter, who because he doesn't knock people out, probably gets overlooked.
paulie malignaggi, juan diaz, kassim ouma, eddie chambers, cristian mijares, bobby pacquiao, oktay urkal, sam soliman, felix cora jr, ray joval...not a whole lot of power, all considered pretty exciting fighters due to their workrate.
Yeah I do. Look at fans picking Hatton to destroy PBF and fans saying Hatton would kill Paulie. I think fans hype up fighters because they can KO people. I'll give you another example. A fighter like Michael Katsidis is going to get a big fight soon but he never even took a step up fight to get a shot in the 135 division. He getting big money fights because the only thing he can do is come foward and throw bombs. Everybody likes power but I think it a little overrated and some fighters depend on it to much.
And only casuals and fanboys think power has that important of an impact or has that much of a bearing on the fight scene in general. How well you take a punch is more important to a successful fighter than how hard you can deliver one. An accurate punch can render an opponent unconcious just as easily as a powerful one. I'd rather my fighter be accurate than powerful...take a great punch than deliver one...etc.
I'm not saying all fans think power is everything but there a lot of fans that is everything for them. Most fans think because a fighter don't have a big KO record that they are either runners or boring fighters. Even you got to admit that is true.

No alittle bit of everything defence,speed,timing,footwork,mental focus and how you set up your power shots,but power only can get you so far.

Power is good but at the same time it gets boring....Tyson against anybody....most of the fights end up by KO in the first round...is it that exiting? What about boxers who have great power and they look really bad against good boxers? Remember Trinidad vs Hopkins? What about Trinidad vs Wright? Don't you think that woud have been better if Trinidad had had better skills and then after in the championship rounds ko Hop.? The best combination of both .....Thomas Hearns
