Is puking normal the first time?

This is my first post here and im here because I really had no one else to discuss this topic with. Although after this post I love boxing and definitely will stick around this forum.

I have wanted to take boxing lessons for awhile now and finally Tuesday I made a call to a boxing gym near my house. The only time the trainer could fit me in was on Wednesday mornings at 6 AM. So I jumped at the opportunity. I am 25 years old, 5"10, and weigh around 185 pounds. I am in okay shape but nothing great. I used to be a runner and after running a half marathon a year ago I have pretty much given it up. The problem is since I gave it up I have put on around 35 pounds. I still run two or three times a week but only three miles at a time and nowhere near as fast as I was once able to run.

Yesterday I took my first ever boxing lesson. It was a one hour lesson one on one with a trainer. The first 25 minutes we didn't even put on gloves. It was situps, squats, a few different things with a medicine ball, vertical jumping, jumping left and right over a weight bag, and a few different things with a bungee cord. Fifteen minutes in I walked outside for about 45 seconds and puked twice. After that I came back in and went right back to work. When I came back in the trainer told me that I shouldn't be embarassed because most new comers puke their first couple of times because they are not used to the workout. When we were done all of the pre glove workouts and put the gloves on I felt fine.

    I have a few questions.
Do you think the trainer was just saying that to try to be nice or do you know of people throwing up at their first training session?

The only time he can fit me in is at 6AM in the morning. Do you think the time of the workout had something to do with puking?

For as much as I am embarassed about throwing up and the pain im feeling the day after. I honestly can't wait to go back.

Did you eat before going training?

The trainer sounds like he was seeing what you are made of, I have heard of similair cases, albeit rarely. Personally, i'm not a fan of this type of thing, I keep a close eye on my fighters, and if they are getting towards that point I will pull them out. My fighters come to me because they want to learn to box, or to get in shape. They certainly don't come to me to be made unwell.

I ate a fiber one bar at 5 AM. The reason why I am going is to learn how to box and to get into shape. Obviously im not going to get sick, but I wasn't sure why I did get sick.

I've puked before. Two things I'd suggest. Eat at least 2 hours before training. If it's early in the morning try a meal replacement drink. It won't be as heavy in your stomach. Trial and error will tell you how much you can have and how long before training.
Other thing is now you know that feeling you can prevent puking. When you get the feeling DO NOT STOP MOVING. Stop dead and you'll puke, slow down but keep moving.

My trainer keeps count of all the people she has ever made puke. Shes quiet proud of it too. I wanna say it's up to the high 20's.

and yea, gpater, your first comment made me smirk as well, braveheart just hearts the dick.

Thanks for the information. As far as the title of this thread maybe I should have thought about it a little more before I published it.
