Losing fights while being shot doesnt hurt your legacy.
Only losses while you are prime and a little bit past prime hurts you.

Hes hurting himself, not his legacy. If I bought a Ferrari back in 1990 and drove it regularly for 30 years, and now its rusty and not running well, does that mean that it was never an awesome car? No. Roy cant undo what hes already done. the great Ezzard Charles lost about 20 fights at the end of his career.

**** his legacy. If he continues to fight(and,of course, get knocked out which is inevitable)he's going to be in very bad health. But,he's a grown man.....

To people who haven't seen his entire career, it will count against him. To people who have, it won't.

Does anyone ever bring up Marciano putting Louis through the ropes when discussing Louis' career? Absolutely not, and rightfully so.

I don't think he hurt his legacy at all. The people that judge aren't simple minded to completely disregard his ability in his prime for his decision to fight when old and clearly past it.

Sadly losing fights after your prime does not hurt your legacy - Holyfield knows this - Toney Knows this and Roy Jones knows it.

BUT winning when after your prime WILL enhance your legacy. Even tucked between multiple losses

Look at Foremans comeback. He lost his biggest fights except the Moorer one [which was the proverbial lucky punch] and his legacy is massively enhanced.

Hopkins stock was raised after beating Pavlik although his losses twice to Taylor and once to Calzaghe were explained away as him been past prime - A total win/win scenario, no wonder he wont retire.

Maybe if a fighter decides to continue after their prime, it should count against their legacies - maybe then they will retire at a sensible age and have their health protected...

That would be true if not for the fact that people fight on too long for money, not legacy.

Naw he was shot the first tarver fight the move up and down in weight ruined him. He wasn't moving the same and he reflexes were pretty much gone. I actually didnt think he looked great against woods before Ruiz even though he did get the KO. Everything after that has been utter garbage, tito was nothing at LHW, Lacy never was anything. Bhop was a tragic fight and calslappy was an absolute joke. RJJ should have retired after Ruiz, or Tarver 1 at the latest. I never really liked the guy but it is ad to see him go out this way

I will always believe that him having to lose muscle mass after the Ruiz fight ruined his body somehow. Tarver's first win was definitely legit and he probably gives prime Roy some fits. But still, it is what it is.
