is scott quigg uks best prospect with only a dozen am fights on his card.

ive not a great deal of faith in most of the uk top ams whove turned pro lately most cant punch, and when they move up into half decent class its hell and high water with men that real top prospects wipe out. but scott quigg is doing a better job than the rest, he is wipeing out decent fighters , has the fact that only a dozen am fights helped not to ruin his style as he,s not a punchless runner with his chin in the air. full kudo,s to him ,he can fight.

 

I think he did Muay Thai boxing first then transitioned across. Might have helped his development.

 

I agree with you about the ams that turn pro and can't punch. I was amazed when I heard Degale, an olympic gold medalist, saying he was only just starting to learn to twist and pivot his legs and hips to generate power. This stuff shouldve been learned from day one. Also, I think more and more of the ams in the UK will prove to have not so great chins.

As for Quigg, he looks really good? Why didnt he have many am fights? What age did he start boxing?

 

just shows muay thai is closer to real boxing than the ams are, whatever he,s done' more could do with doing the same, i rate him highley.

 

good point, the ams favour quick flicking styles and to be right its biasness against young boxers with powerfull styles, groves and bellew aside i dont find the others exciting, give me aticket to watch the olympions or quigg, and its quigg every time.

 

Exactly. Gavin's a typical example. Good boxer, good footwork etc, but he couldnt crack an egg. An to be serious, if you want to dominate at world level, you need a punch.

scott is a very good fighter but the best prospect in the UK if you can still call him a prospect is tony bellew,hes got loads of skill and backs it up with a huge punch in eithier hand,a great shame hes not scottish lol!

 

Bellew is way over-rated on these boards, he is not the 2nd coming ffs. He is good but nowhere near as good as people think.

Since 2009, we have seen under 2 rounds of footage of him on Sky. I think it's pretty hard to extensively judge him unless you have seen more of him than that. But from what I have seen, he has looked impressive.

 

well i'd like a gym full of over rated tony bellew's thank you:goodtime will tell but imo he can be UK top fighter and dominate the LHW division for the next 5 -6 years.you obviously haven't seen him perform or if you have you know nothing about boxing too suggest he's not as good as what people think.

 

Well i have see him perform am and pro. Like i said he is good but imo does not have the athletic ability to get to the very top, he will be a solid wbo level operator. Look at fighters like Pascal and Dawson, very athletic and fast whereas Bellew is a strong puncher but not very athletic, we will see.
