Great post, although I would dispute that Duran was at his pinnacle in the rematch and in fact SRL was purposely looking to fight an out of shape Duran in the rematch and he himself said as much. But regardless, he did beat him fairly in the ring, and his achievements are extremely impressive, it's only his lack of longevity that keeps him from the very top of the ATG list.

If Leonard's overrated then just about every fighter is.

    you sure are stretching it

Hearns was three years from his prime

Duran was about two years past his

and Benitez? I never thought much of him anyways

Kalule grade B? I guess you could say that

My main problem is Lalonde. You insult all grade B fighters when you place Lalonde in there with them

It's not that he's a bad fighter; he just had that problem of ducking certain people such as Pryor & Hagler face to face, as well as Nunn

He also had problems with speed, fighters such as Norris N Nunn, who could box, bang, N move

He was in the middle of his contrived comeback which no one but myself has questioned, when his opportunity to face the unbeaten Nunn came up

quite naturally, he refused so he could pick on easy prey- Lalonde, over the hill Hurtman Hearns who, barely survived James Kinchen, and fat pudgy Duran (known at the time as feet of clay)

 Did you see what Norris did to him? He was a laughingstock!

Think what Nunn would've done to him!

The speed of Norris was of course, well documented, legendary even

Perhaps you've heard of it? It's so sublime, sonnets have been written about it

    what experts?

The imaginary ones who are under 25 yrs old based on your gross misinterpretation of Perry's comments?

It is funny how the most arrogant people on here are the least ****ytical and myopic - tunnel vision will not help you see the forest for the trees.

    Coupla differences:

    1. Foster never accomplished diddly at HW, but Duran achieved oodles at welterweight and above.

    2. One of them is commonly regarded as one of the p4p best fighters of all time.

    3. Foster was finished at 38... Duran had just busted up Iran Barkley within the same calendar year he fought Leonard for the third time.

Your biggest fallacy logically is your assumption that any expert who picked Leonard over Norris cannot then claim Leonard is a better fighter pound for pound than Norris career wise.

There is no validity to that.

Everyone thought Tyson would beat Douglas. Who now rates Douglas above Tyson career wise?

Also, since you are fond of finding quotes, why not post some quotes post Leonard/Norris?

I'll be waiting in earnest for quotes such as "Despite Leonard looking like he still retained the speed and power of his prime, Norris was still too much for him."

    Yes, Benitez sucked

Youngest fighter in history to win a world title - won it over one of the best 140 lbs fighters of all time.

    3 divison champion.

    Made Duran look ordinary.

    He's no Terry Norris.

I said I didn't think much of him. He was okay but too low on speed

Lost badly to SRL, Hearns, aand Hamsho in which he quickly showed his lack of heart

and even Davey Moore (KO BY 2)

Yes, he lost some big ones - similar to Jerry Quarry, he just couldnt win the big ones but he was certainly in the thick of things

Now to be fair, it's not his fault he broke his ankle after being decked by Davey but I think Hamsho ruined him just like having *** with another man ruins a bride

    probably would've lost anyways

We also shouldn't forget how he was knocked silly by upcoming Matthew Hilton

The way he worked Wilfred's delicate body. It had never been tested by such a savage young not to mention, hungry contender like Matthew who was just salivating over Wilfred's frighteningly exposed ribs

Young Matthew reminded me of a young Rocky Balboa pounding that side of beef in the freezer

    What was he, only 28?

It's like I said, Hamsho ruined Benitez as a fighter

a good defensive fighter but that's about it. MAJORLY overrated both the the press and the fans

Avoiding shots along the ropes does not win you fights

lacked the speed of the greats such as Terry Norris otherwise, all those big fights he lost, he probably would've won

Look at the true greats like Terry Norris, they know how to overcome adversity. The example is how he dealt with Leonard

Using the already legendary Norris speed, he painted Ray up and down, up and down, like the artist Renoir with masterful strokes, complete with two knockdowns, leaving Ray crying along the ropes by the tenth, :| until finally after 12 absolutely masterful rounds, his painting was complete to the score of 120-106

Kirkland Laing did that, same year

probably, you shouldn't have put that :nono

but then, you're as slow with your brain as Benitez was with his fists
