So. You have seen ONE source listing Hopkins as 5'10. Boxrec lists him as 6'1. So does evey single OTHER broadcast listing the tale of the tape that I have ever seen, bar one, that listed him at 6' flat. But you chose to believe that Boxrec, HBO and Ring Magazine are lying to you i favour of this ONE other source, that you can't really remember?

    :nut

    I disagree.

But are you saying hat Tarver is the size Boxrec sas he is and Hopkins isnt? Or are you just sayng they are lying about Tarver less? Hyping him less?

I couldn't understand a lot of this. What is your source for Toney being 5'9?

So Boxrec has McClellan right now? Why is that? Because they got caught lying? Any idea who pulled them up on the lie?

What, the scandal where they used to list his reach as 72" (according to you), but now list it at 74" in keeping with every singe contemporary source i've ever seen? Or are all those sources lying too?

referees are apalingly biased towards the home fighter in ALL of europe. in the vegas casinos refs favour the promoters boy regardless of nationality but it amounts to the same thing. house fighter, home fighter its the same thing. hatton was both beneficiary and victim of this system in the U.S for example.

but This is getting away from the point that 240 plus heavyweights suck. 240-250 pounders would all fight beter if they trained like fighters and kept away from "protien shakes" and bulking up programes.

james toney has been listed in different places as 5'10 and 5'11 1/2 though many people say he is 5'9. JMM has been listed as 5'5 and 5'7. shane mosley was 5'7 at 19/20 in amateur fights until he was professional, then he grew two inches. floyd was 5'7 in the olympic trials then 5'6 in the actual olympics. everyone exaggerates their height.

ive met carl froch who was listed this weekend as 6 foot 1 inch. kessler was listed at the same size also and they both looked the same hieght too. however i am a quarter inch over 6 feet in my socks and saw clean over frochs head when i met him and have a photo to prove it. I beleive he is 5.10 and a half tops without shoes. fighters dont especialy lie about their height someone asks them and they just say what they think. if a guy the same height says hes taller they begin to think it fair game to add an inch also. Ask anyone their height and measure them, its always wrong. perhaps police mug shots are the only way forward!

This is going to feel weird, but Frankenfrank has a point.

Sources regarding fighters heights are often embellished (or reduced) for reasons that suit the boxer or their promotional teams. Some times it might be as simple as wearing shoes when measured, a fighter quoting his own height that he isnt sure of, a journalists error or a desire to hype (Valuev's height was notorious forbeing misquoted for a while). Publicists do what they do to promote a fighter and that causes lies which when reprinted can become fact.

I am sure it was Adam Pollack that posted a while ago that his research convinced him that Fitz lied about his stats though from memory, he was understating his weight. It always has been rife, and always will be.

It certainly isnt a boxrec conspiracy because they want the truth. But you can only be as good as your sources and when there are multiple ones, i guess you have to take an educated guess. I have seen Tyson listed as short as 5'9 and tall as 5'11. I am not sure as what boxrec has him, but 5'10 would seem as about as close as we will ever know.

Why on earth do you think this has anything to do with what Frank has said?

Of course Boxrec has incorrect information. Of course heigts are wrong. But for Frank, Boxrec is involved in a conspiracy where every single fighter in the history of fightng has had one inch added to their height for purposes of hyping a fighter.

Secondly, all due respect to your knowledge of that era, but this is a problem that belongs in the past. I can see for myself that Bernard Hopkins is not 5'10, thanks.

I thought he said hype was one reason that increased heights often resulted. Maybe i misread it.

 Well i said he had a point, not that i agreed with everything!

I never said anything about bernard Hopkins:?

Is Tyson 5'10 or something else. I have no idea which is correct (never seen him in person) but i think that would be about right wouldnt it?

No, not you, him. He says that Hopkins is five-ten and a half rather than 6'0 as he was occasionally listed in the early ninties 6'1 as listed by Ring an Boxrec, or 6'2, as lised by various British newspapers in the run up to the Hopkins fight.

I've seen him listed as 5'10 and 5'11. Boxrec lists him at 5'10. Frank will insist he is 5'8 or 5'9.

Wladimir Klitschko is 1.98m, thats 6.5
and vitali is 2,01m, thats 6.6
Lennox Lewis is 1.96m, thats 6.45
    Bowe 1.96, thats 6.45

so these are the super heavys with a lot of talent, skil wise and athletic wise. guys like that are very uncommen. we had 20 years with four exceptional tall talents. the next champion will be not bigger then 6.3

No he isnt, as far as i know. I say he is in the mix as a challenger, because if Adamek is the champion, Dawson was the only person to beat him. that gives him a pretty good case for a title shot, regardless of what weight he is campaining at.

dont worry, there have been heavyweight droughts in the past, we will get through this one.

In the next ten years, my hopes are that a superstar HW bursts onto the scene, beating everyone in fantastic fashion. Then hopefully he can hold onto the title long enough to become an icon in the world, inspire youngsters, thus refreshing and revitalizing the heavyweight division.

    This is a dreamers dream.

Yes, some of the old timer fighters like Fitz reported a lower weight for the press. The trouble with box rec is, the editor who updates a page has the final say.

There are some British super heavies to watch. Price has some skills, but he also has a glass jaw in the amateurs. He won't go too far. Tyson Fury was raised to be a boxer. He's big, has some skills, and can hit. He also needs a lot of refinement.

Since the early 1990's the #1 guy has almost always been a super heavy. 20 years have passed. This is not a fad.

Sure Holy and Moorer were not, but Holy should be 1-4 vs Bowe and Lewis on fair score cards. And Moorer who defeated Holyfield lost to an ancient super heavy in George Foreman.

:yep I'm 5'5 and 3/4 but I always tell people I'm 5'6. I'd be happy to let boxrec measure me. I could end up being 5'8.
