I'd rate a peak Tyson as more skilled than a peak Pacquiao.

When most neutral fans think of "skilled fighters" they think of Floyd Mayweather, I almost guarantee it.

Guys who go into a boxing ring, and hit an opponent 60 times, while taking nothing in return, are generally considered skilled I'd suggest

morales, barrera and marquez do not have better skills than pacquiao.

they throw better combinations, but that is only one aspect of boxing. pacquiao has much, much better movement than all three, and he picks single shots better than any of those three, and those are just as important as combination-punching is. morales always had a very weak defence, and marquez's was none too clever either. even at their best, both men got hit more often and more cleanly than the present Manny Pacquiao. is defence not important when it comes to skills?? pacquiao's defence is not as sophisticated as that of toney or benitez, but he uses superb movement to ensure he does not take many punches, and this deserves recognition.

oscar is not more skilled than pacquiao either. oscar relied far too much on one hand to be considered highly skilled. pacquiao right now is a better two-handed fighter than oscar ever was. oscar had a much better jab, but if he met someone with as good a jab or better, he was lost. this was proven when a past-prime ike quartey outboxed a prime oscar.

pacquiao's own specific skillset means that he has another dimension to his game which prevents his getting dragged into dogfights with lesser opposition. at his best, morales was dragged into dogfights with the likes of mccullough and chi. at his best, barrera was beaten down by jones. at his best, marquez was beaten by freddie norwood and chris john, and later he had very difficult nights with a past-prime barrera as well as juan diaz.

why do you think pacquiao doesn't have nights like these now he is at his peak, even when is in tougher fights, like miguel cotto at welterweight? because he has a different game to morales, barrera, and marquez, a game which relies on clever movement and tactics and punch selection, and that dimension means he is so far ahead of those he fights with. i think you don't like his style, so therefore you say it's not skilled, but the evidence clearly shows it is. neither morales, barrera nor marquez were ever the p4p#1, and neither morales, barrera nor marquez were ever utterly dominating guys much bigger than them naturally.

morales, barrera, marquez and oscar were all more pleasing from a purist perspective maybe, but that is not the same as being more skilled. to be honest, i think present-day pacquiao makes these four look, well, a bit ordinary really.

my top 5 on ability from the last 30 years would be (if duran is not included as he doesn't seem to be by the guy who wrote the list cited by the TS):

    1 - pernell whitaker
    2 - ray leonard
    3 - marvin hagler

and then you could pick and choose from any number for the last two places:

benitez, jones jr, hopkins, mccallum, ricardo lopez, jc chavez, hearns, even kalambay maybe.

i wouldn't have pacquiao or mayweather up there in terms of just ability, but i certainly wouldn't have guys like morales, barrera, marquez and oscar anywhere near the discussion either. four great fighters, but to even mention them here is silly i think.

I wouldn't even waste thread space unless it was someone credible like thomas hauser or bert sugar throwing together a list like that. A fan site? It's a fan site. Fan submission. Whatever. Point is, that's there opinion.

Being most skilled doesn't mean being the best boxer style fighter. Why elevate a certain style above others?

    - Oscar insisted on a 158lbs catchweight when he challenged Hopkins for the middleweight title

    - Hopkins made Winky come from 160 up to a 170lbs catchweight for their fight

    - Hopkins made Pavlik come up from 160 to a 170lbs catchweight for their fight

    - Pavlik gave Taylor his rematch at a 166lbs catchweight

So THREE of the SIX paragons of boxing virtue that you listed actually did insist on catchweight limits for big fights!!!!!!

You really should do your research and know your stuff before making ignorant posts about Pacquiao or anyone else. :smoke

When Oscar helped Pac with FIXED FIGHTS.

Manny Pacquiao is the biggest COWARD in boxing.

Pac has avoided many tough fighters in the past that had challenged him.

Pac ducked Humberto Soto many times.
Pac ducked Joan Guzman many times.
Pac ducked Juan Diaz at least 2 times.
    Pac ducked Shane Mosley
Pac ducked Edwin Valero (when he was alive)
    Pac ducked Tim Bradley
Pac ducked a 3rd Marquez fight.
    Pac ducked Floyd Mayweather
Pac ducked a Miguel Cotto rematch (cause Pac dont want to take OST)
Pac ducked Gary St. Clair ( in 2005)
Pac ducked Michael Katsidis (in 200:cool:

Pacman is also a COWARD for using PED's.

Pac cherryicks Old, faded. shot fighters.

    Pac wants "catchweight" fights.

Pac gets FIXED FIGHTS with Oscar, Clottey, and now with Margarito.

Pacman, by far is the biggest COWARD in boxing.
and the Most Overrated Hype-job in the history of boxing.

But, Oscar and Arum will keep overrating him so they can "milk in" Asian $$$ from all over the world.

Oscar and Arum are pulling the biggest scam (Pac) in boxing history,
