is there a special temperament that draws guys to cage fighting over boxing?

Anyway am off to sleep. Some guys are talking balls coz you get no where in boxing, mma or any other sport just by being a natural athlete with no technique.

To be honest I've got nothing against mma as it has given top graplers a chance to make money. I just don't like the way half of them go on like they're in WWE and the way that some of them who are basically bums go on like they could beat any boxer.

Alvarez was masterful. Not really on the hands side of things, but in positioning and defense. Kind of easy to dismiss the level of take down awareness and body positioning protecting him from kicks that was going on there.

So, are you are arguing that wrestling is superior to boxing in a fight? I know you didn't say that directly, but indirectly...

Wrestlers can compete in mma, sometimes with wrestling alone. This has not proven true for boxers.

That's the way it USED to be. Once upon a time you could hold a position and wear your man down then take him out when he was ready. These days in MMA if you hit the ground and don't get the submission in 7 seconds they stand you back up. The crowd wants to see striking, and with the small gloves a fighter's handspeed, reflex speed plays a HUGE part. The whole point of BJJ was to allow you to neutralize a faster, stronger, more athletic opponent but it takes time and it's not very photogenic.

Take away the ref standing people up, and BJJ guys would still be winning probably about 80% of the time.

When the **** did I say you couldn't outskill someone in MMA? Of course you can, and you usually WILL, but sheer physical gifts will get you out of trouble in the cage more than they will in a ring. It doesn't really matter how fast and strong you are, you're not going to KO Bernard Hopkins unless you have magnificent skills yourself. If Bernard just wants to survive and play defense, I don't care if you have the skills of Floyd Mayweather, he's GOING to survive. But like you yourself said above... you can get lucky against even a black belt in the cage.

If you can land a takedown on a brown belt and avoid getting tapped, then you must be a pretty decent purple, at least. I used to roll with Jeff Glover all the time, and that little ****er could tell me exactly how he was going to tap me then make it happen. Not a goddam thing I could do about it. Of course, he's a pretty elite black belt.

A lot of MMA guys are cocky as heck, especially the younger ones who have been doing it for 6 months and strut around like they are the toughest things on earth. I don't notice as many boxers or wrestlers or karate guys displaying the same arrogance.

I've always seen the exact opposite. MMA and BJJ guys actually get their asses whooped for real several times weekly, and are usually humble, easygoing guys. Same for wrestlers. Kung Fooey types are always trying to stand around looking mysterious and threatening because they don't actually fight. Their whole schtick is what they COULD do if only it wasn't sooooo dangerous for them to actually do anything.

Pretty close - I would add boxing is full of guys that don't do **** without a million press releases and six months of bull**** leading up to the inevitable yawn fest.

I can say that BJJ fighters are most of the time the most humble between the fighters I have met.....

Nah i think it's just a personal choice, I know a lot of people who was into martial arts when in middle school/high school. A lot of them has been practicing it since they were young so why not try MMA?

    The money is pretty good.
