I'm assuming that this is a serious question... Just to be in the discussion, he'll have to beat Canelo, Matthysse/Garcia, Martinez and Golovkin...IMO. I know that's asking a lot but we're talking G.O.A.T. here.
Don't you see that as the years go by and Floyd keeps winning while Pac losing that it becomes just as bad for pac as Floyd that the fight did not happen. And if they fought in the future,no matter who won it would be said that is was past prime for both and not as meaningful. It hurts both fighters legacy.
He compares but he's not greater. To say he doesn't compare is a bit ridiculous when considering his resume which is damn good. Will he ever surpass Ray Robinson? It's unlikely but to be honest he has a chance to do it which is more than I can say about any other boxer in my lifetime.
I don't think he can be the G.O.A.T at this point to be close he would have fought Cotto in 2007 Pacquiao in 2009 maybe he picks Margarito instead of Baldimor fight Tsyzu and Spadafora at his weight divsions would have helped. What he could do now is proabablymove up to 160 against a guy like Martinez. he is however top 25-30 ATG in my opinion
He could KO a Klitschko, in fact both, and not everyone would give him the monicker G.O.A.T. Why? It's subjective, and unless the criteria is based on undeniable, measurable, tangible, quantifiable FACTS, there will never be a universally held G.O.A.T. Not even Robinson. There will always be critics or people that say he wasn't the best, and their opinion is just as valid as the next. My Dad and Uncles all think that Ali was the G.O.A.T. We have people that have never seen fighters from previous generations claim they are the greatest without thought, simply because they heard it on an espn special, or read a top 10 atg list. I tend to think that the skill level of previous generations isn't comparable to today, and the fights of yesteryear aren't as aesthetically pleasing. But...just my opinion.
of course it does I was just saying that it was the pac fight that hurts Floyd most as even being considered a 'GOAT' - no other fight available to him during his time in boxing was more important, or even close EDIT : same for pac
The truly meaningful discussions on who is the G.O.A.T. will always revolve around the old-timers like Robinson, Greb, Armstrong, Langford etc. Because those fighters had epic careers, hundreds of fights, lots of tough epic battles, against top opposition. Sometimes weekly battles with top contenders. They didn't get the same paydays as fighters can get now, so they had to fight more, and the fights were allowed to be tougher and more violence. Most were ripped off financially by unscrupulous managers. And they got their brains bashed in, or were punched blind. No one will come along to rival what they did, because frankly, if you don't need to, it's stupid and dangerous. Boxing commissions wouldn't even allow it.
he has goat ability but sadly not the level of competition. Would have been in that region if he beat pac in 09-10 but his cowardness cost him...
If floyd was to fight canelo, matthyse/garcia, sergio, golovkin and although i know its pointless now but finish off with pacquiao (if he keeps winning until then) then for me he's defo gotta be top 10 .. I know thats its very unlikely 3 of those fights will even happen though, can't see him fighting golovkin.. i actually think he would fight sergio but with the hbo/showtime stuff it just creates problems from the start..
Pacquaio turning down a 14 day cut off drug test = floyds a coward. never understand this.. if pac was clean he'd of taken the test. If you were to fight somebody and they asked for testing, you'd say no??
The difference between boxing and those other sports is that actually the modern fighters practice far less than their predecessors. The best of the old-timer fighters used to fight more fights and spar more rounds, thereby acquiring and honing their skills and craft to a higher degree. They would fight longer fights, and fights would be allowed to carry on longer. But of course the drawback is they got brain damage. Obviously, modern tennis players and modern track and field athletes, and modern footballers etc., don't have that dilemma.
