At WW, SSJ1 Duran(Montreal) is not a top 3 h2h guy, Is that Dragonball Z reference? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIKyMwWB7Yw[/ame]
He fought 73 times because he never had an amatuer career. Suggesting that foreman, liston and frazier arent p4p great fighters, thats good for you, you just overrate small fighters. By the way, the leonard that duran beat only had a win over benitez at that time anyways, leonard was hardly a top 20 atg when duran beat him. Who beat more ranked fighters? Ali. Who has fewer losses, ali. Ali has beaten like 3 or 4 people that would be considered top 100 fighters of all times, duran has beat 1 fighter that would make a top 100 list. Why shouldnt i try it with sonny liston, sonny was coming off huge wins over patterson and he was supposed to crush ali, dont try and create some revisionism, it was considered one of the biggest upsets ever at the time. Sonny Liston is better than the stiffs that duran was fighting at lightweight. Duran has never even beaten a top 10 all-time lightweight, ali has beat like 3 or 4 atg heavyweights. I'd say Floyd Patterson was p4p more skilled than 95% of the stiffs that duran beat.
I do agree with some of the points brought up in this thread and I can understand if some people dont have Duran in their top ten but he is definitely top 20.
Yes, a sarcastic one. Duran is the Vegeta of boxing. Big rep for being cooler than a mother ****er and whooping on the henchmen, but gets his royal ass handed when up against the top dudes. One step behind the Goku's of the world. I do believe he achieved SSJ1 on a single occasion(Leonard I) but other than that he was merely kaioken x4. His fans will have you believe he potara fused with Goku for the Barkley fight, but it was really only Hercule, Barkley is the Spopovitch of real life. If only he'd of spent a day in the hyperbolic time chamber or munch a few senzu beans now and again, but alas, he never trained and always suffered the cramp.
Nigel Benn would have pushed his **** up at mw?The same Nigel Benn that was STOPPED at middleweight by Michael Watson, who was stopped in his HIS very next fight against Mike McCallum? There is nothing on Nigel Benn's resume at middleweight that would indicate he would have beaten the Duran from the Hagler fight, hardly "pushing his **** up".
Only having seen a lot of Duran's post-lightweight fights, it was always surprising to see his high ranking, particularly when people rate him above Leonard, Hagler, and Hearns as the best of the Fab Four. That particularly I find jarring, especially considering each of those fighters beat him. I need to research more about Duran though, honestly. I've heard his pre-80s career is ATG worthy, but I had considered his career past that has been much murkier. Not sure if anyone here is willing to help shed some light on that, I'd appreciate it.
