Im shocked by what happened to him. Im a huge fan of Jhonny boy but that chin of his is like a thorn on his side. It's something that cannot be fixed.. His footwork can be worked on but what about his chin.. Is this the end or is there a way for him to bounce back? Through careful matchmaking perhaps?
Nah..he is a still a class fighter, one of the better guys in his division. He is still pretty young and has never really taking an embarrassing beating before...He just got caught and stopped abruptly on most occasions. He clearly has his limitations...they wont go away but thats not to say there arent some good fights out there for him and potentially future title shots. Molitor perhaps?
Nishioka knocked him out in the 3rd of thier WBC title fight. Main event on the Rafa Marquez return. Perfect shot on the chin,Jhonny was going straight back thus went down and got up wobbly and was stopped.
Wow! I never saw that coming. Was the guy he was fighting good or just lucky? BTW thanks for posting.:good
Nishioka is pretty solid...was always potentially going to be a hard Johnny because he has a good chin and a big left hand. He showed he was class against Sahaprom...and I was wondering when he would come back into title contention..He has some tough names to knock off if he wants to be the best in the division..Im so sure he is good enough to do that and seeing as though he is Japanese its unlikely he will even position himself to fight guys like JuanMa, Izzy and Caballero anyway.
guy should avoid southpaws like the plague. Two straight lefts that he loses from. And you can blame his chin all day but against Penalosa he was KTFO by a body shot.
Jhonny can handle B ranked opposition and the like...but when it comes to a big fight against a top name, you can bet on him finding a way to lose. Doesn't mean he isn't a good fighter or anything. It just means that Gonzalez is a litmus test for fighters and nothing more.
I don't know what can be done with him. I thought he'd pull through this time but it seems even if he worked his way back to another title fight he just can't take a punch against world class competition. Anybody know who trains him?
