I'm one of the biggest Vitali fans and I consider him an ATG heavyweight. He's been in my top10 p4p for a long time, and closer to 5 than 10, but ATG p4p? no way.
A minor one. I agree with some that we need a better definition of great. I would certainly place him around the Ken Norton, Floyd Patterson range in terms of heavies. Hope he sticks around a while and moves up the list.
Its always hard for me to rate the Heavys :huh because in modern times the Heavyweights have gotten so much bigger and when it comes to real old timers Pre 20s their style and technique was well kindal lacking, but then you cant forget about those Old timers so my criteria is a combo of who would beat who and how good they were for their time. So heres my list... 1.Ali This was an easy choice resume and hed also beat everyone today 2.Louis 25 title defenses actually hes a close 2nd, 3.Holmes Hed also beat everyone today, and 2nd in title defenses 4.Johnson Dominant in his day,but he wouldnt dowell today withthat style 5.Foreman Just dont think anyone else would beat him except Ali,Holmes 6.Holyfield Very underrated and he was faded when Lewis beat him 7.Tyson so dominating in his prime unmatched blend of Power, speed 8.Marciano Never lost and hed be a dominant cruiser today 9.Lewis I think he was the whole package but abelow average chin 10.Fraizer Has to bein here cuz almost fought Ali evenly overall. 11.Dempsey- Hes was greatin his time one of the greatest puncher 12.Tunney- Hes hear cuz He beat a only slightly faded Dempsey twice 13.Liston I think the first heavyweight that would even kick ass today 14.Bowe and Vitali are tied I think vitali might pass him up soon 16.Charles Great would also dominate Cruisers, fought Marciano tight 17.JerseyJoe He was basically Charles equal Ok id have to admit Vitali would probably beat all but 6 guys on this list hed lose to ALi,Holmes,Foreman,Holyfield,Tyson,Lewis and He might have beaten Bowe,Fraizer,Liston but i wouldnt bet on it. I just dont feel hes done enought to be rated above the other old timers.
ATG fighter across the divisions, definitely not. He's probably in the Top 20 head-to-head, but his resume is weak. Vitali's resume has a lot of bums and journeymen heavyweights. In the two most important fights of his career he lost. Challengers for his title like Corrie Sanders, Danny Williams, Samuel Peter, and Chris Arreola have been very overweight, and he's never fought his strongest competitor in the division. He's a very good fighter, but I don't think he's quite an all-time great. Wladimir Klitschko can be though.
Who cares if his opponents were overweight, it's not exactly up to him whether or not his opponents come in shape.
When did I say it was up to him ? When the other fighter is 30 pounds overweight, it's not the best version of them in there obviously. Unless you think the fatter James Toney was better.
Yes, obviously. I didn't realise how amazing Vitali Klitschko was until I signed up to ESB. Thank you for opening my eyes, ESB.
