I give credit to loma but there was opportunity in the first two rounds to hit loma and get some confidence I think Loma just felt him out and once he realised this guy doesn't wanna be in there with me it was over for Walters from that point.

Listen, I agree. It was poor and my view of Walters has been diminished because of this. I just think his motivation to quit was more complex and psychological than cowardice.

His motivation for quitting may have been very complex but if he wasn't in the right mind state to begin with as some people said he should have took some tuneups then took the fight.

Would your view of him had diminished as much if he stayed in there for 12 rounds or got knocked but threw everything he had at loma? If he did that I would have said he got in there with an elite talent after a lengthy lay off and got outboxed not the end of the world Loma is just better but I still think Walters beats a lot of the guys in his division.

No man who gets into a boxing ring is a coward. Are you mongs going to call Roberto Duran a coward?
    To his face?

Walters didn't have, or doesn't have, what's called "grace under pressure". Not everyone has it.
Most posters here would squeal like little girls after just one left hook to the body by any pro boxer.
However any sports fan of any sport is correct in demanding the best out of an athlete that he's paying
so see, and that means not quitting when the going gets tough.

He's certainly not going to get televised or big money fights again until he proves he's ready to stand in
there and fight to the end and not quit on his stool.

Were not professional fighters though, when you take on that responsibility like you said you owe it to the public and your team to give it your all, I'm not talking about getting your face bashed in or taking excessive damage but to at least stick around at the tough moments and give yourself and your fans a chance to see whether you can change your circumstances or not.

Do you know how many fights I've seen Andy Lee dig himself out of a hole with one punch or how about demarco when he was getting destroyed by Linares and stopped him late. I'm sure you can think of many comeback stories.

He was totally outclassed his corner knew that & pulled him out He had zero chance so it was right thing to do. Those guys were beyond hurt as was proven They were not protected as they should have been

You make some great points. At the end of the day Walters himself said he was hurt in the post-fight interview, in that last round, I think even so far as to say he knew he was going to get knocked out. That doesn't sound like a guy making excuses to me, rather admitting in front of God and everybody that Loma was the better man.

If you message board QB's think he's a coward, feel free to step in the ring with someone who's completely dominating you to the point you have 0 chance at a win.

No. Boxing is, especially at the highest level on the big stage, a very high pressure situation and it's extremely demanding both physically and mentally. Sometimes fighters collapse under the weight of the mental pressure. I understand why people are ****ed off with Walters, but I actually feel sorry for him. He's a good guy and he just had a moment of weakness. He's already going to be beating himself up and feeling embarrassed and ashamed with himself as it is. But Having 10 million boxing fans publicly ridiculing you calling you a quitter and a coward is a horrible thing for anyone to have to go through. But the worst part about it is many of them aren't going to let him forget about doing this for many years to come. The abuse he's getting on Youtube is pretty disturbing, and the vast majority of it seems to be coming from those who picked him to beat or expose Loma.

Yes I agree with you. We don't (or anyway the more mature of us don't) need to see a man smashed to the point of serious injury. I'd like to see more corners stopping fights.....sometimes I think all they see is a cash cow instead of a boxer.

But for sure all boxers owe it to the fans in the arena, the fans watching on tv, their families and their team to put in the best effort possible. I don't think Walters did the best he could do, but he has that problem to deal with the rest of his life.
