is Wilder/Stiverne 2 the worst rematch ever?

The WBC should never have made the old, inactive Stiverne mandatory.

I had not considered than that, but now that you mention it I agree that AJ vs Martin has more competitive.

I don't know this for sure, but emotionally, it FEELS like there had to have been a bunch of unnecessary rematches involving boxers like Hasim Rahman and John Ruiz sometime in the early 2000s.

Wilder should just change his nickname to Deontay "windmill" Wilder. I didn't get to watch it live, but the first punch in the highlight was a windmill punch. I hope it doesn't set a trend in boxing.

Stiverne's conditioning was horrible. What a joke--this is the end for Stiverne at the top level. Too bad we never saw Stiverne face off against notable opponents in his prime--he certainly had the pedigree and the ability at one point.

Good to see Wilder start off sticking the jab and mixing in right hands by the end of the round. But this KO looks nowhere near as cool as Joshua's various KO1s or KO2s.

    The first KD was textbook.
The followings are vintage Wilder, completely wide and lack of technique.

We all knew Stiverne was levels below Wilder and that was if Stiverne actually tried..

I have no idea what Stiverne had done to get the no 1 position, it feels like a set up tbh.

Just makes a mockery of the whole WBC especially potentially Molina was going to be the next mandatory... OMG let that sink in...

I think there is too much blame being placed on Wilder in this thread. Be objective.. it was a fight he didn't want either. Ortiz if anything should receive the criticism. The WBC ultimately are responsible and how they ever decided that Stiverne was their number 1 is beyond absurd. Wilder for his part did what he had to do.

It's pretty bad, but Adonis/Fonfara, Berto-Ortiz 2 are right up there alongside it.

This. Stiverne definitely underachieved for the ability and talent he had, but not taking his conditioning seriously caught up with him. Wlad was able to stay on top for so long because he was always in impeccable shape even coming off a long layoff at 41 years old.
