Can we say "shutout"? Laguna outspeeds Mancini all the way. A lopsided decision for Laguna. If not a shutout then damned close.
I have to agree. Ray's workrate would likely catch him a few rounds compared to Laguna pot shotting him constantly while on those greyhound legs the rest of the way. Clear win for Ismael.
I don't mean to bad mouth and dump on Mancini..I rarely ever pick him in any of these mythical matchups...but this one would be utterly no contest..Timmers612 hit it on the nose with "greyhound legs"...Laguna was so fast..Mancini would never catch him, or even have any idea as to how to fight him. Laguna gave Buchanan two tough contests...Carlos Ortiz was able to outclass him in that 3rd fight of theirs..but Boom Boom never had any kind of pedigree to compare with Ortiz or Buchanan.
Ismael would, as mentioned before, just about shut out Ray.Maybe this is how a fight with Howard Davis Jr. would've worked out if Ray had fought him.
I think Mancini would've walked through Howard Davis and got him out of there at some point. Laguna is a couple levels up from Davis and could punch a little. But I'll throw out a different perspective. What if Mancini never fought Arguello? In a mythical matchup, would we be predicting he'd give Arguello hell for 14 rounds? I doubt it. I'd probably go with Arguello stopping him between 6 and 8 rounds. Mancini was robbed against Camacho IMO. I don't think Camacho was in Laguna's league ever, and certainly not at the time of the fight, but he ran the whole fight. Laguna was a fighter, not a complete runner. I think a shutout is a bit much for me. I'd say Laguna wins it 11-4, 10-5ish or maybe stops Mancini late on cuts. I think Laguna would know he was in a fight though. Boom Boom hung with Arguello, Bramble, Camacho, beatup Jose Luis Ramirez, a probably past it, smallish Chacon. That's a decent pedigree at a pretty high level.
Touche'. I agree, that cuts stoppage is more likely than shutout. I think shutout sells short the combativeness of both fighters.
Mancini usually works too hard to get shut out by any fighter. He wouldn't get discouraged, but his face might not last as long as his determination. Laguna also stopped "Guts" Ishimatsu on cuts.
Davis had the talent to beat Mancini, but I dont think he had the toughness to. Besides, Davis wasnt in Laguna's league by a long shot.
