Interesting turn of events if it is true. I thought GBP has already made the deal with the Universum fighter, but Warren probably offered more. Kotelnik is a very good boxer, I thought he had a draw vs. Witter and his M'Baye fights (a loss and a draw) are both debatable IMO. He had a great fight vs. awkward, quick, powerful Maidana and I thought he clearly won it. He beat Abdulaev and stopped Rees too. I thought it was a bit early for Ortiz to challenge him, but Khan, not having a single fight at LWW, could ask too much too early here. I wrote in another thread that with the non-existent punch resistence of Khan, the faster, technically better fighters offer the more danger, as everyone in the top15 at LW/LWW can stop him with a clean power punch to the chin, and Kotelnik has much better chance delivering it than a puncher like Katsidis or Urango. Very interesting match-up, it came out of nowhere. If it's true, I really look forward to this one.
he stays in one place too long (not very mobile) good counter-puncher but i wreckon khan tko him late kotelnik had a good tough match with gavin reece kotelnik is very under-rated but khan will be too much for him in the long distance
the only time i've seen this guy is when he gave gavin rees a beating to take the title. the guy is technically good, with decent power, theres nothing special about him, he isn't fast or anything but times his punches well.
Very interesting fight. It surprises me that, prior to the Prescott fight, Warren was always saying that he wanted to bring Khan along slowly and that he wasn't ready for a title shot, and afterwards he's suddenly gotten brave with his match-making. Kotelnik is a good fighter who I thought was unlucky not to get the decision over Junior Witter. He's a pretty good counter-puncher who's never been stopped - this would be a very impressive victory for Khan if he manages to pull it off. Obviously, it will be interesting to see how he takes Kotelnik's punches.
Fairly fast, but Khan is much faster of course. Still, Andreas TIMES counters very well, it'll be interesting to see how much success will he have placing accurate counters when Khan unleashes his 12 punch combos. If anyone thinks Khan will stop Kotelnik, should watch the Witter (especially the 2nd half) and the Maidana fights, two huge punchers, one of them being very busy all night long, and Kotelnik easily made it to the end, almost pulling it off vs. Witter and of course beating Maidana (fairly IMO). The Argentinean caught him flush on the chin with a huge punch in the later rounds and Kotelnik never went down. Khan relies on speedy combos to get back into defensive position ASAP, puts less body weight behind shots nowadays, so I doubt he'll show serious power at 140. The most obvious prediction is Khan outworking the not too busy, slower Ukranian, but I think he'll land more than a few crisp counters, and I don't know what will happen then.
Kotelnik is nothing to special, I remember the Gavin Rees fight, beat him pretty easily, but Khan is no Rees. I'm going to say a Khan KO, around the 8th, saying that though Kotlenik has never been down. Reason I'm saying that, I can see maybe the ref stopping it early or something like that.
i am not a fan of kahn by a long shot but if he adopts the in-out in-out approach and stays mobile like we know he can do this will not be such a tough fight khan footspeed and footwork is far superior compared to kotelnik and especialy since freddie has taken him on board and will insure khan does not let his game slip when kahn gets in range his handspped will allow him to land 2-3 quick punches landing cleanly is another matter because of kotelnik tight defence amir's handspeed is also far superior to his as we already know this is very clever match match-making by warren it is no an easy fight by any means but frank done his work well and he has managed to land kahn a world title shot which is very very winable
So somebody explain it to me. How come someone like Witter doesnt get to fight for that title and Khan goes in straight away?
because khans promoter's frank warren wareen can get things done quicker then any other promoter in the uk even hennasey
