I don't blame Peter for quitting. If he was landing punches or even half competitive, okay...... but there was no point in taking further punishment (and he took plenty). If you're not landing ANYTHING at all and getting the **** kicked out of you during 8 one-sided rounds, what's the point?

    Live to fight another day.

Of course i knew it you dumb ****. Just like you knew that Tyson bit off Holyfield's ear but instead decided only to see the positive side totaly ignoring anything which sheds a bad light on his career.

His performance was definitely horrible for a heavyweight champion but deciding not to continue isn't in my opinion. He had NOTHING left to offer anymore and was taking damage without delivering anything in return, what's the point?, die in there?, if it was close then sure we'll have a discussion and I'll agree but he didn't win ANY round and wasn't even close to winning any nor landing anything. He was completely out of the fight and Vitali showed no signs of getting tired to help boost his confidence either. If you're asked to stay at work for 1 week with no sleep and full work will you do so or even be able to do it?, try exchanging punches from another powerful professional in a fight you're badly losing in.

Go suck a **** ? Don't take your personal fantasies for a universal generality. You're a hypocrite who's only cherry picking certain moments of your favorite' fighter's career to make your point.

On the other hand , Peter never abandoned a fight before. Not against wlad klitschko nor against anybody else..

The guy took a ton of punishment and showed a lot of heart BUT:

What about his gameplan, and why didn't he came into the fight 10 pounds lighter. For the biggest fight of his life, you would expect someone to come in top shape.

A big part of the reason why Peter ended up eating so many shots and having to quit was because he couldn't get on the inside against Vitali.

Vitali's greatest asset is his anticipation of shots being thrown by his opponent. Therefore against Vitali, there's no point in trying to establish the jab but rather find a way to constantly get inside. The jab in this case would only serve the purpose to help get inside like Mike Tyson use to do wonderfully well in his best days !

Ideally you would have to effectively bob and weave like D'Amato taught, but you mostly need a little speed to get inside with a little head movement.

That fight showed exactly why his weight issue is a problem... He is constantly 10-12 lbs too heavy and those extra pounds take away a little of the speed necessary to get on the inside...

I take nothing away from Peter...but he is not a serious athlete and the weight issue surely will always be a problem because he is limited talent wise to start...

I don't really see the problem with Sam Peter quitting after 8 rounds... I mean did he even land 1 meaningful punch after all these rounds? He obviously was spent, out of ideas and mentally done and he would have only taken 4 more rounds of pugilistic abuse from Vitaly. So good call on Peter's team knowing where the line is between bravery and stupidity and choosing for Peter's health.

This is all very worthy, but he was IN LOUSY SHAPE.Why should people go easy on a badly trained athlete on one of the biggest nights of his life?
He was fighting for the biggest prize in Sport in **** condition.:verysad

'Dont blame him for quitting'?Why the fuk not?
If he trained properly,he may have been competitive and not needed to quit.
This isnt a Miguel Cotto style,in shape fighting well before being overwhelmed scenario.

Peter is getting all he deserves,so stick your moral high-ground up Peters fat backside.

Agreed, but what I am saying is I have always been very critical of peter. I think that were it not for how naive fans can be and how well he was hyped we would not even be talking about him today. How anyone could have thought that he was on the same level as Vitali is beyond me.

He was lighter than he was for his first fight with James Toney.
