Sarah, with all due respect, outside of serious fight fans, nobody in America has any idea who Dirrell is-except of course for those in his hometown. And I mean nobody.Besides,Joe is retired, for what,a year?Plus the fact that Dirrell is fighting in a tournament that should decide who the world's best 12 stone man is-finally a tournament that we can all agree is good for boxing, although Bute should be in it,too, instead of maybe Dirrell.Dirrell has good skills, but lacks experience and a good chin.Froch will probably take him out late once he starts landing consistently ala Taylor.
Funny I was thinking the exact same thing about Ricky Hatton,Amir Khan and the English national footie team.
This thread makes next to no sense. First off, Dirrell gets very little hype. Second, Calzaghe has been retired for like a year now. Why the hell would he be receiving any hype? Dirrell has the worst odds to win the tournament and he is a healthy underdog against Froch. Not many people are picking him.
dirrell has done something calzaghe would never do. fight anyone at a young age. thats what boxing is. taking on whomevver. not cherrypicking
I find it funny when posters say who has Kessler beaten ! Before Kelly Pavlik got embarresed/schooled/destroyed by Bernard Hopkins ( who was past his prime and just an old man in his previous fight ???? ) the hype he was getting was unbelievable now remind me who has he beat ? People hype the fighter they like and thats fine but guys Calzaghe has retired why are my always seeing lots and lots of posts about Calzaghe ?
Dirrell is barely talked about here, and certainly has NEVER been to the level of hype Calzaghe received. Go cry in your tea and crumpets....
Well at least Froch isn't overhyped or anything. I wonder what percentage of the Engish population knows who Froch is. I can say with certainty that less than 2% of the Amercian population can tell you who Dirrell is. Overhyped you say?
I don't think he's getting too much hype. At this point in his career he's a complete unknown, and people are speculating. What's wrong with that?
