It was yes - nearly 4am in the morning and I was struggling stay awake!

When GBP ditch you...... time to exit stage.

Manfredo should have looked at himself in the mirror after that fight, because it was there for the taking, should have won easily but decided to settle for 10 rounds of foreplay.

Unfortunately, yes. Despite being overrated if you called him the next Tyson or a borderline P4P-er, Lacy was a pretty good fighter pre-Calzaghe with two-handed raw power. But Joe took away his soul and a bad shoulder injury took away his power. It's very sad, also the SOB 'fans' who turned their back on him and became the loudest 'he was always overrated' preachers. F*ck them.

I think a payday vs. Roy and he should hang it up. He's just a shadow of himself, no reason to continue for a fighter who once fought 3 level above the current capability.

Lacy was a very good fighter pre-Calzaghe. In fact, I think the shoulder injury has affected him just as much as the Calzaghe beating because he looked great in the first 2 rounds against Typsko before he had the shoulder tear. His best weapon was the left hook but he doesnt even use it anymore after the surgery.

    What a shame

His level of opposition wasn't all that though..... granted he disposed of them pretty emphatically.... but when your best win is a shot Robin Reid.....

Reid was probably just best his best when he fought Calzaghe, which was six years previous - in fact up until he beat Lacy... Reid was Joe's best win (Eubank was inactive and nearly shot, Woodhall was past his best)

Agreed. Jones will mess him up. Just proves that Lacy has never recovered from the beatdown he received from Calzaghe

Well neither fighter had much of a resume really.

Look at the split AFTER though:

Calzaghe would take two relative no hopers on in Manfredo and RJJ, a tough and game Sakio Bika and two great fighters in Kess and Hoppy.

Lacy afterwards would struggle against Tsypko and suffer a serious shoulder injury, STRUGGLE in a ppv fight with Manfredo Jr and lose 11 rounds to Jermain Taylor. That's not including his two poor performances against Mendoza on FNF and Otis Griffin.

    Talk about two opposite roads.

I agree, everyone said that he was the "real American contender" who would expose Calzaghe :rofl. Even though the odds didnt show it he was a huge favorite to KO Calzaghe, and when he got destroyed over 12 rounds it ruined him. His corner should have stopped the fight after 7 or 8 rounds :!:.

I agree Arriba Calzaghe's resume is awful for a fighter of his ability - even though I don't like him. In the grand scheme of things it is ok, but why so many meaningless defences?

No European title, hardly any trips abroad.

It is something of a theme for British fighters - generally those that fall under the control of Frank Warren.

Pre-Tszyu, Hatton had 38 fights and his resume was..... well..... absolutely awful. Even now, it's still only 'respectable' or 'decent'. Bruno and Eubank had crap resumes, Hamed's was slightly better, Benn a bit better than Naz still - prob on a par with Hatton.....

Only Lewis had a top class resume.

The issue of domestic vs international opponents usually has a lot to do with the quality of opposition. If they're not fighting a BIG domestic name or in the states, it's usually a low risk opponent.

Sides in the UK fighters can still sell fights on name value, I mean hell Hatton brought in a huge crowd to face Juan Lazcano coming off two losses and a 16 month inactivity streak.

Low risk massive reward...and honestly? Ya can't really blame em.

He never was all that great to begin with IMO... but he's been shot since JC.

One more nice little payday vs RJJ, then start looking for a new career... or wind up a stepping stone, punching bag for up and comers.

Lacy was never great, and Calzaghe proved it, then the shoulder injury finished him.

I'm not so sure it's confidence, as physically he can't use the left.

Let's not give Calzaghe credit for his opponents fighting like garbage please. :patsch

Lacy hurt his shoulder in the Tsypko rematch, and he was never good to begin with.

A "prime" Lacy lost 5 rounds to a shot Omar Sheika, which tells you all you need to know about Lacy's "level".

Lacy has looked like **** everytime out since the Joe fight.

He has gotten by on the judges cards because of his name more than once since then.

RJJ wil still possibly fight him in a Florida showdown.
