    very good news

I guess this one comes down to how well Pavlik has digested his ass whopping at the hands of old man Hopkins. Seems like he hasn't too well, while Williams is on a roll and is supremely confident. However, while Williams was physically superior at WW, he isn't that any longer at MW, at least not against Pavlik. Williams has better skills but Pavlik hits harder, since they're both very busy in the ring this fight could well be a war.

i agree man, this could def be foty...

i know its easy for me to say, but hopefully pav sees the hopkins fight for what it was...him jumping up too much too fast against the best lhw in the world and a ****ing cagy hof'er and biting off more than he can chew. he was under the weather and had a couple nagging injuries (he still doesnt win even if he's 100% at that weight against him imo).

he's still the mw kingpin and has stopped every mw to get in the ring w/ him. get back to the basics, what got him there and come in w/ a chip on his shoulder and he should be able to eventually get to paul and put him down. but pwilly is a dangerous man and i do like him. anyone else i'd be pulling for him but not in this fight :yep

It'll be WAR Pavlik. Paul's chin better be made of granite.

I feel like addressing a few points just for shits and giggles:

First the long lay off: The last time KP had a long lay off it was also due to hand problems. When he came back he went on a wild ass tear that culminated in beating the undisputed, undefeated, middleweight champion of the world, and then beating him again at SMW (166# actually.) In that 2nd fight KP became the only man who ever won a decision over JT.

Boxing skills: I keep running into this assumption that Paul can outbox Kelly. That is by no means a given. KP's best weapons should be obvious to everyone: the jack-hammer version of the jab, that wierd left hook from outside, and the straight right. Paul has a tendency to hold his own right down low, and that leaves him open to both the left hook and the jab. The left hook and the jab set-up the right hand. The fact that Paul is open to Pav's 3 best weapons will make it damn near impossible to "outbox" KP.

Game plan: Some of the fighters I'll name here aren't as good as PW, but the principal still applies; everyone has a game plan. McKart said, "This kid has never been past 9 rounds. I'm just gonna take him out in deep water and drown him." Bronco caught a lead right to his body in the 5th, and his plans went to **** fast. Miranda thought he could just steam roll Kelly, and we saw how that worked out. George Peterson sounds exactly like Steward before the first Taylor fight, and we saw what happens when you underestimate KP. In the second fight Taylor came in with a whole different game, and put on one of the best performances of his career, but he still got out-jabbed, out-manuvered, tricked, countered, and out-gunned. Forget Hopkins; Paul is not big enough, strong enough, or smart enough to pull a BHop. Rubio looked like he had freaking turbo chargers on his shoes, and he still got ***** slapped for 9 rounds. The point here is that Pavlik is an experienced professional, and there is no "game plan" that Paul can surprise him with. If Paul tries to do something radically different from what he normally does, he still won't be doing anything KP hasn't seen.

Workrate: This is a non-starter, or at least it should be. Everytime we've seen KP against someone who throws a **** load of punches, Kelly throws more. A premier example is the Miranda fight. Edsion is bigger, stronger, and hits WAY harder than Williams. Miranda tries to take your head off. Williams is a shoe-shiner. In the first round of Pavlik/Miranda Pantera threw 94 punches. Kelly threw 97. Please don't try to convince anyone who knows boxing that PW can win this on work rate. You beat Pavlik with ring smarts, physical strength, extremely clever footwork, power and speed, not work rate.

Reach: Williams has an absurd 82" over all reach. KP has a 75" reach. On the surface that looks like a huge advantage for PW. However, overall reach can be deceptive. Paul has a very broad back and shoulders. His actualy arm length advantage is 1", same as Miranda.

Williams is a welterweight: My response? BULL****! I do not care if Winky was off 21 months, or 21 years, welterweights do not beat 7 shades of **** out of Winky ****ing Wright! Anyone who wants to claim PW is a welterweight needs to make me a ****ing list of currently active middleweights who can beat him. I'll even help you get started: Kelly Pavlik. Now, see how many names you can add!!

Long post, but I can't help it. I'm excited about this fight, and waiting over 3 months until it happens is going to drive me nuts. Thank God we've got several other good fights coming up to keep me somewhat occupied!!

what if paul williams chin stands up to pavlik...

    matter of fact..

lets assume pavlik cannot hurt williams at any point in the fight due to Williams extraordinary and all time great chin?

    what happens then?

then we see who can out land who and it would be one of the great mw fights of all time.

and that would mean he would have one granite chin b/c no other mw has been able to do that...or anything even resembling that since every mw has been stopped by pav

Not too many fighters ever...EVER, have gone the distance with KP. Taylor & Hopkins, thats about it. All others get KO'ed.

%'s are not in Pauls favor.

This is the fight that I am most looking forward to, even more than Pac/Cotto. Pavlik can be outslicked-but I don't see that coming in to play here. I just can't pick a winner.
