I said OUGHT to be irrelevant.

Now - obviously people see these kind of things differently......

You are correct in saying that it was a bit of an oversight on his part, and that it could be construed as offensive by some. I however, whilst understanding that some may find it offensive, fail to see why.

It is not as if he said a blatantly racist remark, he was just trying to be funny and failed miserably, in truth.

Not sure about the whiteboard/blackboard/chalkboard thing - I again don't see how that would be offensive, for Christ's sake it is a BOARD. You could just call it a board, rather than saying it's colour - afterall, a car is a car, irrespective of whether it is yellow, pink, or twotone blue and rust.

The nursery rhyme thing is nonsense though, you surely agree?

I went to school in Scotland for 5 years, and we called a blackboard a blackboard, no playground rhymes were out of bounds and there were no PC rules, whether written or unwritten - there was just respect or lack of it. Now, it's true, I left school a while ago, so things might have changed, especially down here in England...in which case, I am ashamed as a citizen of this country. With real, dangerous racism still present in our streets and communities we're worrying about "blackboards"? Talk about putting the cart before the horse!:-(

About what is reported...are you sure people aren't reporting incidents that that someone's third cousin twice removed reportedly encountered? Has your sister actually heard other teachers frown upon these rhymes?

The malice in my opinion is still immaterial. Jim is clearly an idiot as he has done this before. How it is possible to enagage your brain before your mouth has caught up on national TV is beyond me considering his experience. His statement was entirely unimportant to the topic at hand.

That being said me and my mates died with laughter when he said it and we recored on it on SKY HD for further amusement. :yep

The white boad black board thing is just PC BS. BUT some of the nursery ryhmes DO HAVE there roots in slavery. IE Ba ba blacksheep etc.

Is it right to teach your children an ignorant nursery ryhme that has its basis on the slave trade? Of course to a child it means nothing. But the meaning becomes apparent with age hence why we are discussing it. Ignorance is not bliss. And doesnt it make it right irrespective if its been taught to generations of children.

The PC brigade go wayyy overboard and unfortunately drown out any points of merit that they do make. Most of the the time its always some white think tank that drums this crap up. Much like the black police association which was created by a white think tank to combat the loss of black police officers due to institutionalised racism.

Ironically the head of the "Black Police Association" isnt even black. He`s Asian if people want to be specific.

I think sometimes, it must be said, that some non-whites in the UK use their colour for personal gain - a classic example being the head of the black police association.

    It sucks big time.

Though on the flipside, I am sure that certain white people only shop at places owned by white people etc, so both parties are just as bad, in truth.

Surely a person ought to be judged on their ability to do a particular job - if that guy is white, fine. If that guy is black, fine.

Back to the police man - didn't he complain that he didn't get the deputy met commissioner job back in 2006?

Unless we knew the details of what happened to that police man who didnt get the job, we can't say for certain whether or not he was the victim of racism. Maybe he was, maybe he wasnt, like you said, some people use their skin colour as an excuse as if its racism when they simply aren't up to the task, but that said, i've dealt with my fair share of white scumbag racists who didnt measure up either.

I'm surprised this thread is still going.

No question about that and you`ll find its predominantly Asians and some Africans that are very quick to scream racism.

And yes he`s the ***** that complained. He`s got some balls as the man has been under countless investigations for corruption, false arrest, taking bribes, aswell as being overtly ciritical of the police force. How he still has a job is beyond me. He`s nothing more than a big mouth opportunist who abuses his position of power handily. The mans a complete discredit to the force.

There is a tendency for people to refuse to 'tell it how it is' in most walks of life these days for fear of upsetting others.

'Special needs' is a classic example - to me 'Learning difficulties' is acceptable, though some prefer more gentle means.

I think this thread is still going because everyone has a view on matters like this.

To me, racism, in any form, is wrong and should be stamped out. But people should not have to be in fear of upsetting someone else by making a simple statement. What you don't want is a form of 'positive discrimination' - whereby you have to pander to someone's every need on racial grounds (see the South African cricket team).

    I love positive descrimination.

It gave the England cricket team Kevin Pietersen, and for that I say thank you.

Cracking player - just wish he would be himself though instead of this amped up guy he tries to convince us that he is.

There are people who put their foot in it without realising it who aren't racist and who would treat everyone the same, and there are people who hide behind PC or behind statements like "I am not a racist, but..." or "politically correctness gone mad!!", etc. before making an unpleasant/ racist remark, with a sly grin of satisfaction and entitlement on their face.

I don't think it's the former we need to worry about.
