Holyfield didn't burn as bright as Tyson, but he burnt far longer and beat a still good Tyson twice. I think he always would have. Holyfield also beat a long list of very decent victims over time, and fought very well at an advanced stage vs Lewis in the rematch. I forgive Lewis a lot for the Rahman and McCall losses due to emphatic rematch victories, and i afford Holyfield the same luxury with Moorer. The Bowe losses at his peak gnaw away at me, but i will have to concede Bowe was a little better than i like to admit and was a stylistic drama for Holy. Holyfield ranks above Tyson, and therefore jumps Liston and Frazier. Things are starting to clear!
Foreman's actual win column past his brilliant emphatic victories over Frazier and Norton is very thin. He was also the right man at the right place at the right time against the right opponent when he beat Moorer, tho itis still one of the greatest achievements in boxing history. He was however repelled comfortably by an in form Holyfield prior and i do think Moorer got Holyfield on an off night and was lucky to even be the champ. It's also a bit of a deterrent that i believe George was never the same destructive force post Ali minus his aura of invincibility and self confidence. Foreman still IMO has to be a little above Frazier due to his anniliation of him and regaining of the title so late. He's only JUST ahead tho, jeez. Frazier fought better vs Ali but was stylistically suited and George was also ducked a little by Ali when clamouring and earning (i'll definitely go with dinners word here, he provided the M.O.) for a rematch. Foreman will be ahead of Frazier by the smallest of margins.
I hate to do it but i am going to have to sit Liston right behind them. Head to head i think he beats Frazier convincingly and Foreman as well. He just doesn't quite have the runs on the board of these guys. Holyfield overall did a lot more than Foreman and over a longer condensed period. His loss to Bowe is offset by Foreman's loss to Young. Holyfield will be number 6 and the only thing left to do will be too determine Tyson's exact standing between Holyfield and Frazier. Isn't this thinking aloud exciting
Not quite, i am sorting where Tyson comes in between Holyfield and Frazier, well in essence if he is above Foreman. He's 7 or 8.
Well we all know there's definitely two opinions to steer well clear of round here when trying to rank Tyson fairly
Well we'd better make room for Holyfield's Big Daddy Bowe then, and Fireman Jim and Tunney have got to come in around 22 and 23, just in front of Demon Dempsey :good
I'll give ya a hint a grade 1'er could follow, just so we're on the same page. Two of them are posting on this page, and i ain't one of em :hi:
Fireman Jim Flynn ! No way. Tunney ? Maybe There's such a thing as not being in your prime. Otherwise we could put Leon Spinks at number 1, Marty Marshall at 10 ! :good Bowe ? I dunno. I'd rather just drop Holyfield from the top 10 - my top 10 will become a top 4 in no time, these heavyweight just dont stand up to scrutiny. Monte Cox has Bowe above Holyfield which is unusual ...... and Tyson above both of them. DOH !
I made my top 10 years ago, and it is constantly changing. I've even made changes here recently. 10. Mike Tyson 9. Joe Frazier 8. George Foreman 7. Evander Holyfield 6. Lennox Lewis 5. Rocky Marciano 4. Larry Holmes 3. Jack Johnson 2. Joe Louis 1. Muhammad Ali
