Uh. Do you not see the hypocrisy in justifying Hester's college time, and then comparing Browns college time to APs? If elite footballers don't take sprinting as seriously in college, and Brown never taking it as seriously as AP, on top of the equipment evolution, why the heck would we make a direct comparison between the two? Again, I'm sure AP is faster than Brown, but not by much. I would guess he had better acceleration as well.
I read something yesterday that said at age 50, Brown had a 40 time of 5.72. You can pretty much guarantee that with practice and being 22 years old Brown would have a 40 time comparable to guys nowadays if not faster than most.
This statement makes zero sense. Even in this "Time Machine" scenario... what, do they play one game and that's it? We're talking about how dominate they would be in a perspective era correct? That means more than one game, that means a career in the modern era. So explain to me how he's warped in a machine, plays in today's era, but somehow doesn't train using modern methods for his career? This isn't a boxing match where you can take a fighter at his best vs. ___ in the 50's and then transport that fighter to face ____ of the modern era. That is a one off fight. The discussion at hand here is, how would Jim Brown's CAREER go in the modern era....
Elite footers TODAY don't take it seriously. Specialization. And that's a real recent trend, last decade or so. Even Neon Deion did track for a minute in college (10.28 or so). There's no way that AP would post an 11.4. I don't think you appreciate the gulf between 11.4 and 10.3. It is night and day.
Considering that your 40 time decreases significantly from in your 20s to 50 years old. Lmfao I can't believe I have to explain this.
How are you so smug when you so clearly have no idea what you're talking about? You obviously have no idea what a 5.76 40 looks like. Do you understand that a 5.76 40 would be very slow for even a 330-lb NFL offensive lineman? The only man who ran a (slightly) slower 40 at this year's combine is this beaut: https://admin2.scout.com/sites/default/files/2016/08/13/1255642.jpg And do you realize how many variables go into the decline of someone's speed with age? There's no sensible way to extrapolate backwards from Brown's time at 48 to the time he'd have had as a younger athlete. What an absurd comment.
And so could a lot of folks in the same age group Its ridiculously slow. I will say in his defense that he was probably riddled with injuries from his career. Actually I find Harris' time more alarming. That is just too slow for an active pro HB, even one at the end of his rope.
AP and CJ have both hinted at the idea of competing against Usain Bolt. A ridiculous notion, but it was certainly on their minds. It is a huge difference. De Grasse also scored more than a second later on the dirt track. He wasn't primed like he would be for an Olympic run, but like you said, a significant gulf.
