Got to 1:07... "A big, awkward, stumbling fighter..." This content is protected OK, doc. But perhaps what was going on is that Bowe was getting better and increasingly had Vander's number. I am addressing the actual competition by which we can judge Jack's abilities. You are merely resorting to ad hominem. Who was the closest that Jack faced, in style and quality, to what Bowe offered in his prime? Fulton, Willard? And they are closer to Bowe, in style and quality, than Vander, Cooper, Hide were to Jack?
You realize that was voiced over several years later right? The first two were close fights with Evander winning the second one. Holyfield was up on the cards and landing 60% of his punches until he was stopped against Bowe. Do you really think that Bowe's chin would hold up to Dempsey landing at a 60% connect ratio? Holyfield landed 50% the first two fights and was the best that Bowe faced by lightyears. The idea that Bowe is supposed to pull a spectacular performance out of his ass when he gets into the ring with another atg in Dempsey is preposterous. Bowe isn't even a top 15 heavyweight of all time. You're the one that get's triggered every time Dempsey comes up and resort to over the top hyperbole and outright lies that you have been exposed for time and time again. Don't act so immature and I won't call you out on it. Bowe was better than them and Dempsey was better than Holyfield. Holyfield had notoriously bad defense. Yes. Holy, Cooper, and Hide didn't fight anything like Jack. They were the same height, that's it.
But Kimbo was a 230 pound modern day heavyweight. Dempsey was a small 180 pound cruiserweight. Scale says Kimbo beats him up!! Sorry. I couldn't resist.
or draw like 3 times with a guy named Fat Willie... a no, I'm not talking about the guy from Predator 2.
That post was in reference to Kimbo Slice but okay. What makes Bowe so unbeatable? Btw Dempsey wasn't a "185 lbr" he was comfortably trained down into the 190s during is title reign and prepared for fighting outside. Not in a nice 65 degree air conditioned arena. Against Brennan he weighed in at 197 according to a newspaper report I read. Tell me, do you honestly think it was Holyfield's weight that allowed him to give Bowe such good fights or do you think it was his skill? Herbie Hide, a natural cruiserweight, had Bowe out on his feet. Dempsey was just as strong as those guys and a better puncher by far.
Jack Dempsey beat a bunch of mining town prospectors and steam boat captains. He never seen anybody with the size and skills of Bowe.
I would take Bowe in this one, but I'm inclined to pick peak Bowe over many ATG heavyweights from the rich history of the weight class.
I mean can ANYBODY with eyes and a brain consider one of this circus guys beating Bowe or Foreman? This content is protected Not able to keep a fighter down STANDING NEXT to him, just to eat random punches by that getup fighter drunker than the drunken sailer?? What comedey is this ???
It sounds like you have a lot more confidence in Bowe than I do! For me Bowe's record raises nearly as many questions as it answers!
I tend to believe that Bowe's skills from his peak tend to get underrated because of his fast prime, and subsequent lack of dedication. Mike Tyson, for instance, seems to get a much greater benefit of the doubt when discussing "prime Tyson". Bowe's defense certainly lacked something desirable, but I think he was crafty, skilled, and had a tremendous ability to absorb a great deal of punishment. That last point, combined with his skill throughout all ranges - outside, inside, and mid range - I think he presents quite the daunting task for most heavyweights who laced up the gloves.
